It’s amazing how many US and UK citizens don’t know Australia had a substantial commitment to to Vietnam. Australian engagement in large scale battles such as Long Tan and Fire Base Coral are studied at RMC Duntroon. In 1966 Australia was allocated the province of Vung Tau and the application of force without driving the local populace into the arms of the Communists was text book counter insurgency operations. Australia achieved a remarkable degree of pacification which lasted until their withdrawal in 1973.

It's Phuoc Tuy Province and the Australian Task Force was withdrawn in November, 1971. The AATTV left in December, 1972 and the Australian Embassy Guard Platoon was withdrawn in June, 1973 - it was the last Australian unit to serve prior to the evacuation in 1975.

Fun fact: preparing for deployment to East Timor in early 2000, we were trained up in riot training. That was the body armour we were issued, shitty green vests, stencilled with 'CAMP EARMARK' whatever the hell that was. Handed it back in with the riot gear and never saw it again. We were issued the Pasgt helmet, but wasn't uncommon to see the occasional M1 helmet at the HE range. I was issued one in 1995 that I kept after discharging.

Ah, 1 RAR by any chance? I remember scrimming an M1 helmet at Singo.

Australian forces rarely wore helmets.......we preferred the Giggle hat (since we did alot of patrolling where a helmet is at a disadvantage)

Interestingly I just watched "danger close" for a second time. Possibly the most accurate war movie ever. If you haven't seen it, you should. And thank you for uploading new videos.

Can’t agree. The opening where a landrover speeds through the base camp throwing up dust is absolutely a no no. Not only will a WO kick your arse, someone who just cleaned their rifle, now covered in dust will punch out the driver.

Good movie but had a lot of bull shit in it ,no one man mission to find a way out that be deserting and no adf trooper ran into two vc wamens carrying wounded comrade and let them go that would be treasonous ,no one man missions, but all in all a fair movie ,just saying bloke

@@charliedontsurf4543 You are completely wrong. There was a very brave D Coy Sig who got a PRC 77 set forward on his own dodging V.C. on the way. It's obvious you never enlisted, so please pull your head in. DUTY FIRST.

Why are these things always decided via a Pole? It’s never a Czech or a Croat as two examples.

kinda wouldnt call it body armor since the flack jacket is really only intended to protect from low velocity fragmentation , its not slowing a rifle round and im pretty sure its not even rated for pistol rounds , it was more a " better than nothing " thing

Its still body armour, the same way a stab vest is body armour. Its not a bulletproof vest but it is armour for your body, ergo body armour.
