Manny Ramirez of the Chicago White Sox faces his former team and teammate Jonathan Papelbon of the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. September 5th, 2010. His long at-bat finally resulted in him getting hit by a pitch on the right arm. He was booed during the entire at-bat.

Manny best hitter I've ever seen because he actually hit great pitching !! Most don't!!! Father time caught up with him and he lost his bat speed. Started chasing pitches and getting fooled because he was trying to get ahead of the fastballs. Unfortunately he turned to steroids at the end of his career to help with the bat speed. Still my favorite hitter of all time !

I've loved the game of baseball my entire life. I love everything about it. I follow it passionately the entire season. But what we saw with this at bat is why so many people don't like baseball. Has anyone ever paid attention to how long too many hitters take in between pitches? Sometimes the pitcher contributes to it also but in this case, Papelbon carried none of the blame. I was very loose in when I started the clock on Ramirez in terms of how long it took him to get into the batters box. Pitch-by-pitch, here's how long he took: 18 seconds, 20, 20, 25, 21, 20. Just over 2 minutes of simply standing around. Ridiculous. The players need to take responsibility on this and knock it off. You could blame the umpires but why should they have to create confrontation with the players and chirp at them to get in the box? Get moving, hitters.

I get that the umpire has to enforce the get-back-in-the-box rule. But they don't. EVER. So take it out of their hands. Fine the players instead. MLB formed the big task to investigate ways to unslow the game. There you go: Fine hitters for taking too long.
