Please ensure accurate information is shared with viewers. I have over 25 years of experience in the quality department of a cable manufacturing company, and I’d like to clarify some points. The temperature a cable’s insulation can withstand for prolonged periods depends on the insulation material, such as FR, FRLS, or LSZH, which also affects the current rating of the cable for the same size. For example, a 1.5 sqmm conductor with PVC insulation (70°C rating) and a Class 2 conductor can carry 15.5 amperes, whereas the same conductor with LSZH insulation (90°C rating) can carry 20 amperes. These ratings are based on a 30°C ambient temperature, enclosed in a metal conduit, and with 3-phase AC. If the ambient temperature changes, such as to 40°C or 20°C, the current-carrying capacity also changes. Furthermore, if the insulation rating is the same, the current rating doesn’t vary significantly between Class 2 and Class 5 conductors. For instance, a 1.5 sqmm conductor with the same insulation rating will carry 15.5 amperes regardless of the conductor class. Regarding copper purity, the standard specifies a minimum of 99.9%, and commercial-grade copper used in the cable industry, such as ETP or OFE copper, typically exceeds 99.96%, ensuring excellent quality. For home wiring, it’s always better to choose cables with higher temperature ratings, such as 90°C or 105°C, for enhanced durability and long-term reliability.
