That album cemented the idea of metal as religion for me. I mean it has a lot of 'soft' stuff on it... But the overriding thing you get from it is that you just went to metal church. Like you just stood in the presence of greatness that you're almost not worthy of... Someone asks you 'what is metal'? Sure, play them Sabbath, play them extreme metal, play them Painkiller... All correct answers... But play them 'The Crown & The Ring' together with 'Kingdom Come' and they now have been exposed to the unique power & glory of true heavy metal \m/

I dont think you mentioned but what really makes the first six albums way better than the rest of thier stuff was Ross the Boss on guitar. He wrote a majority of the classic song from that era and really put down the heavy riffs, and a heavy riff is what specifically makes a song metal. After he left all their stuff (except Metal Warriors, which I've always suspected was a Ross the Boss compossion) had a focus on singing about being metal rather than actually being metal and what is music called that is centered around the vocals kids? That's right, pop!
@joelnallo72522 жыл бұрын
I totaly agree that Manowar lost some quality when Ross was kicked out. Can't say agree that they go into pop after that. But I think overall all the songs about how "true" they are gets a bit tiresome. The old school brutal war/viking theme is what i mainly love about their stuff. There are still some good songs on newer albums. But yeah you can se a overall decline in quality.

The Triumph of Steel (1992) was my introduction to the band band in 2000/2001 and to this day, it is still my favourite albums of theirs. I don't find the 28 minute track boring at all and the rest of the tracks kick ass, such as Spirit Horse Of The Cherokee, Burning (love the heavy intro riff), The Demon's Whip, The Power Of Thy Sword, and the gorgeous Master Of The Wind (reminiscent of Heart Of Steel from Kings of Metal).
@jhutt80022 жыл бұрын
It was first Manowar album I bought after I got in to couple of their songs I had in mp3's. I never really understood that 28 minute epic either, so I definitely agree with RM here. That album opener kind of made me phase out of their discography almost completely.

I somewhat agree with this list..... The first time i ever heard ManOwaR was in 1987... the FtW album. I was 12 and my slightly older cousin bought it from Columbia House just because he loved the name and it turned out to be the best tape out of all the bunch. I was in love with it from the first time he played it for me and then i wore out 2 FtW cassettes myself over the next 3 years or so. The music was great but Eric Adams voice just captivated me beyond this world. At just about the same time i got a hold of KoM in '88 and from that point on they were my favorite band over Anything else. Years later after the ToS album came out i immediately bought it when i saw it at the record store (Now only knowing of 3 ManOwaR albums) I sent off to join the Army Of Immortals fan club and got a booklet (The Oracle Vol 2) And it had an order form in the back with all their older albums for sale on cassette. That Is when i discovered all their earlier stuff, I still have all four black cassettes today as well as my well-worn out KoM shirt i had bought too. Its no secret their newer albums are almost on trash level.. But they will always be 80s ManOwaR to me as when i originally discovered them............ Leaving out all KL junk... So, back in 1984 I'm listening to a local high school radio station and I hear this wicked song come on. I absolutely loved it, but after it was over I only heard the DJ say Manowar. I didn't catch the name of the song. Next day I go to Harmony House and head straight for the metal section. I find Manowar and end up buying Battle Hymns because I didn't know the name of the song I heard the day before. I ended up loving Battle Hymns anyway. The title song is one of my favorite Manowar songs. Later I find out that the song I heard on the radio was Each Dawn I Die, so I ran out and bought Hail To England. I loved that album from the first time I heard it. Those two albums are my favorites from them.

Into Glory Ride is one of the best metal albums of all time, eternally filtering plebs with the band's image, the cover and THAT opening track. "Gates of Valhalla" is the uncredited prototype for Viking Metal. It came out long before Bathory ripped it off, sometimes to a comical extent like in "Valhalla". "March for Revenge" is the uncredited prototype for Epic Doom Metal, coming out multiple years before Epicus Doomicus Metalicus.

At times where there was no internet it took us weeks to find out, that these two albums „Hail to England“ and „Into Glory Ride“ where not available on German market because of legal issues. Been a Manowarrior since 2005. They are very much influential and inspiring to me, both in terms of true metal might and to fight on in this life as life is like a battle and we just fight on. They had a good influence on me on my college days. Call to Arms is my first Manowar song I ever heard, however I did start with listening to Battle Hymns and went up from there. For the old ones, I consider Kings of Metal to be their best as well as Hail to England. Gods of War is still fantastic to me because of the orchestration, the Norse themes and a number of songs that I like, though it is kinda long with the narration. However, honestly, The Lord of Steel is rather disappointing and lame, even though there are a few songs that I like there. I really wonder how things will be like if they went on with their Hammer of the Gods album. Hail to Manowar and true metal! My personal rating: 1 - Kings of Metal 2 - Hail to England 3 - Gods of War 4 - Warriors of the World 5 - Into Glory Ride 6 - The Triumph of Steel 7 - Sign of the Hammer 8 - Louder Than Hell 9 - Battle Hymns 10 - Fighting the World 11 - The Lord of Steel

I always thought Manowar were OK in their early days, but silly. However, I enjoyed them right up to Kings of Metal, even with all the tweaks in their sound. After that, the music became more hit or miss, and the gimmick got old. Those bass solos were horrible wastes of time on albums. Anyway, I guess my favorites are: 1) Hail To England 2) Sign of the Hammer 3) Fighting The World 4) Kings of Metal 5) Battle Hymns

MANOWAR is an interesting band. Outrageous. Proud. Loud. Kinda like THOR was, but really really good musicianship. I heard the drummer died somewhat young. That bugged me. And Ross the Boss reveals in interviews that the bassist was the boss.

Fighting the World was a definite change in direction from the previous album. Put an ad in the back of Kerrang looking for people who just want to kill, carry on an ode to Kansas. I know that the Kansas is different than the Manowar, but Manowar sounds like Kansas on Carry On as well as some of the ballads on Kings of Metal. It's not an insult, the fact that Eric Adams can pull off Vocals that could have been on a Styx or Kansas songs is a compliment to what a great Vocalist he actually is. I always thought that most of Eric's Vocals resembled Dan Beehler of Exciter, but like a more controlled and trained rendition of Dan . Basically if Dan Beehler would have taken some Voice lessons he would probably sound exactly like Eric Adams. I always noticed similarities in their actual Voices, not their techniques

I would definitely put their 90's albums before FtW, but I agree with this list. Into Glory Ride is by far their greatest album. Their first four albums are pretty much filler free.

My favorite song from Manowar is Fighting the World. There is the hookiest vocal melodies that little kid me just fell in love with. When little kid me listened to music I would love anything with a killer riff and anything with guitar harmonies as well. I need to take a trip back to the other earlier albums and see what I can remember from this band. Always cheesy, almost homoerotic, but without a doubt full on METAL!!!!!!

for me there is really no "weak" album from Manowar, yeah of course some are "weaker" than others, but overall the style and quality is in every album great for me. But I do have the absolute album "Triumph of Steel" this is masterpiece beyond masterpiece for me. Achilles Agony And Ecstasy in eigth parts is the best song ever, period. No debate! I listen to all albums regularly on my phone from time to time. What I think that most people doesn't realize is Eric and Joey are 60+ years old, it's understandable they will not rock crazy 200mph fast songs as in their 30s. So it must (I think) reflect on their latest albums, but I still honestly like those album. The only thing I agree with many people is, it would be nice to release proper full length album. Btw, Thunder in the Sky and last Final Battle pt1 are also great... just the same thing, very short... we need full album

I agree that the first four are their best and IGR is their very best. Sign of the Hammer was release seven or eight months after Hail To England. I know online sources list HTE as being released in July, 1984, but it had to of been released in February or March. I bought it when it was new (my first Manowar album) and I still had two or three months left in my freshman year of high school (I am CERTAIN of this). My freshman year ended in late May or very early June.

Ive cut/separated the Triumph 28min track so i can listen the tracks individually and skip the drum and bass solos. Triumph is one of the best power aggressive metal albums of all times. All albums till Louder are amazing, Warriors is half good and all the others are EPs in the best option.

Any such ranking is subjective, but I absolutely agree that the worst ever Manowar album is "The lord of steel". It is nothing but representation of the gigantic Joey's egocentrism. Excluding this album, I like everything else. All hail ManOwaR! =T=

Kings of Metal I love all Manowar albums. Even their worst album is great, to me. Its production is a bit obnoxious but it's so epic heavy and brutal at the same time. Born in a Grave, Righteous Glory, Touch The Sky, and Kingdom of Steel are great songs! Warriors of the World with the bonus songs: I Believe and Dawn of Battle is the version to get, they make the album better. Also their EP Thunder in the Sky is one of their best! Eric Adams is the greatest Heavy Metal vocalist of all time.
