In todays video I'm going to rank the full discography of Judas Priest. Judas Priest has sold over 50 million records and they have been active for half a century. They have many legendary albums under their belt like Painkiller, Screaming for Vengeance, Stained Class and British Steel to name a few. Rob Halford has fronted the band for most of their career besides those two Tim 'Ripper' Owens albums. The band got famous for his wide ranged vocals and the amazing guitarwork from K.K. Downing and Glenn Tipton and later Richie Faulkner. They have also had a long list of drummers, Scott Travis, Dave Holland and Les Binks being some of them and we can't forget about Ian Hill, the only founding member of the band that's still with them. So today we're going to rank all Judas Priest albums from the worst to the best, Enjoy!!!

I couldn't be more happy to see my favourite Priest album on #1 of your list. My more "80'S Priest" oriented friends couldn't believe me as I kept saying that over the years, they thought of it as more of a rock album, and it's true that the guitars sound and overall production is very 70's, but man, to put out something like THIS in 1978? I mean, Dissident Aggressor on Sin After Sin was a heavy metal doors open all by itself, but those bangers on Stained Class? They really did Ram it down wide open, for all NWOBHM scene, right there. I can't point out my favourite song on the album, they're just all so good. And not to mention a dope-ass artwork. It really brought a smile to my face to see it on #1! Thanks for this list man, superb work as always!

yeah, there are many 70's Priest fans who agree. I actually prefer the early 80's stuff myself. I don't know anyone who would rank British Steel as #8??? Also, Defenders and Screaming For vengeance should be higher too. I do like Sad Wings and Stained Class, and Hell Bent For leather though. For me, its Defenders of The Faith and British Steel. SENT BY GODS: 1. Stained Class: Extraordinary on all fronts: composition, performance, emotional drama... 2. Sad Wings of Destiny: It defines heavy metal as we know it. 3. Sreaming For Vengeance: Complex and yet direct, full of life and power - maybe their peak. 4. British Steel: Like its cover: simple, iconic, the pure essence of classic heavy metal. 5. Killing Machine: Great hooks and more light hearted atmospheres than before. 6. Firepower: Full of catchy melodies and quality songs. TREASURES OF GOLD: 7. Defenders of the Faith: Unprecedented heaviness, many shades, though the mechanic sound spoils it a bit. 8. Painkiller: A masterclass to the younger generations - yet a bit one dimensional. 9. Sin After Sin: Colourful record with complex tunes, ending on a brutal high note - though some parts just seem too long. 10. Redeemer of Souls: Some good, not overcomplicated songs with enough finesse and classic vibes. SILVER LININGS: 11. Point of Entry: Some great anthems - and some fillers, too. 12. Demolition: Many different shades and some excellent stuff, though unnecessarily long and inconsistent. 13. Jugulator: Ripper shines, it’s maybe their heaviest and most one dimensional album. 14. Turbo: Enjoyable glam metal - though too many fillers and cheesy lyrics. IRON A BIT TOO CRUDE: 15. Nostradamus: Ambitious, yet not so memorable and just too much - anyway, they wanted to do it, so why not? 16. Rocka Rolla: The humble beginnings: rather generic hard rock with a few sparks. 17. Angel of Retribution: It's like a collection of unreleased songs from earlier albums. 18. Ram It Down: Artificial sound and lower than average songwriting leaves it in the middle of nowhere.

Great ranking and analysis as always. This time around our lists differ quite a bit though, although we're more or less in agreement which albums are at the top and which are at the bottom.I love how high ypu place Sin after Sin, in my experience a brilliant album that often gets kind of forgotten about. I'd place Nostradamus below Jugulator. And just likenyou said, Ripper is the least of his albums' problems. Ram it Down follows there after, despite having Blood Red Skies which is one of my favorite Priest tracks. Firepower is mucj higher on my list, a definite top 10 album for me. It might be sacrilegious of me, but I even rank it above British Steel (which is an album I never 'got' even though I do love a couple of songs) and Killing Machine (Evening Star and Take on the World are among my least favorite Priest songs but the rest is good). My favorite albums would be Defenders of the Faith(1), Screaming for Vengeance (2) and Stained Class (3), followed by Painkiller and Sad Wings. of Destiny. But like you said, the top 7 are more or less perfect in their own way. Sometimes I'm in more od a 70s Priest mood, and sometimes I just want the 80s. Keep up the good work my man!

Great list of a great great band. I was 14 years old when DEFENDERS OF THE FAITH was released, Smack-daddy right down the middle of the glory metal years at its height. Not realizing it at the time, but it never got this good again. I was too young to remember 70's-Priest,but was there throughout their 80's outputs and tours, and in my opinion, DEFENDERS was the peak of the bunch coming out amongst a slew of favorites such as Bark At The Moon, Balls To The Wall, PowerSlave and Ride The Lightning ,to name a few. Just as I think KILLING MACHINE was a slight improvement over sister-record STAINED CLASS (I loved TAKE ON THE WORLD when I was a kid...-now, not so much..) I think DEFENDERS were an improvement over sister-record SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE. Although both in the top of my list, I have to go for DEFENDERS simply by going track-by-track. IT never got this good again. Not even the mighty PAINKILLER could move these 2 80's JUGGERNAUTS. In retrospect, DEFENDERS has only gone from strenght to strenght with me, now residing proudly in my ALL-TIME FAVORITE METAL-ALBUMS TOP-5 LIST, and it will never be removed. This is METAL-Perfection from production over performance to cover and tour. It's Legacy has been acknowledged by the band as well, because we still get to sing a long to these wonderful compositions at the shows. Just think back to the last Tour where the LEAST appealing song of the album 'NIGHT COMES DOWN' was given an airing. HAIL! HAIL! GODS OF METAL and them twin-Guitar-leads, that never sounded better than on this Fantastic METAL MILESTONE! 1. DEFENDERS OF THE FAITH 2. SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE 3. PAINKILLER 4. KILLING MACHINE 5. STAINED CLASS 6. BRITISH STEEL 7. SIN AFTER SIN 8. SAD WINGS OF DESTINY 9. TURBO 10. RAMIT DOWN.

My list is with 3 & 4 at the top. These are my best Priest albums. I own all their discography until 1994 and I listened it to often. The 70s albums were experimental and this the reason that I put them after the Painkiller , Defenders of the Faith and Screaming for Vengeance. They don't have a stable sound in production and Priest try to mimic other groups like Queen as you mention in your video. A grate work from you this list. Have a nice 2022!

For me it's ALWAYS been about Defenders of the Faith. I do realize nostalgia plays a huge part in this, since it was one of the earliest metal albums I got hold of as a wee lad, but none of Priest's other albums - as great as they are - come even close to Defenders in my book. I even love "Night Comes Down" just as much as the other songs. It's a vital part of a damn near perfect album. I rank Defenders as one of the greatest heavy metal albums of all time. That was a great review, I would largely agree. Though I would of put screaming & Defender's higher personally, but I agree after that. One of the reasons I prefer Judas priest over Iron Maiden is that there discography is varied and they sound very different and suit different moods ever well and I believe this is because while Iron Maiden really lead the charge of New Wave metal in the 1980's, Judas priest lead the charge of Heavy metal in general and they still do in some sections today! I saw them for 2 glorious hours at bloodstock and it had me in me leather jacket, leather studded fists in the air with tears in my eyes. ✊😭

Here is my list, note: the 1st 4 are the masterpieces in a league of their own. Altogether I go as far as 5 tiers. 1. Defenders of the Faith: A huge improvement from the overrated SFV album! The only JP album I can listen to 7 tracks w/out skipping a track, Yes the last 3 tracks are unmemorable, but the 1st 7 are just that good, especially the first 4! "Freewheel Burning" and "The Sentinel" 2 of JP's top 3 tracks with Painkiller in my opinion. "Jawbreaker" criminally underrated! 2. Sad Wings of Destiny: A huge improvement from the "seeking an identity" debut album. "Island of Domination" is criminally underrated! 3. Stained Class: This album is very consistent, never get enough of Saints In Hell, BTROD, Hero's End, Stained Class, and Invader 4. Painkiller: "Nightcrawler" is another extremely underrated JP track, very similar in style & structure to "The Sentinel". In fact, I like to look at it as the sequel to "The Sentinel". 5. Killing Machine/H4L: a let down from prior album & their 1st step toward a commercial sound, but still some classics: DTG, H4L, RW, TGMWTTPC 6. British Steel: Way too commercial, but the tracks "Rapid Fire" & "Steeler" make up 2 of their most underrated tracks with a big cult following! 7. Screaming For Vengeance: One of the most overrated metal albums of all time, it was a recovery album from the awful Point of Entry Album! Electric Eye and YGATC, the 2 memorable tracks, but nothing groundbreaking as Freewheel Burning or The Sentinel which followed 2 years later. 8. Sin After Sin: Okay okay...hear me out.....I have a pet peeve, when an album's biggest hit is a cover (just imagine my review of VH's "Diver Down" album, lol). And yes the album ends with a track that another huge band would cover, but those 2 tracks and throw in "Starbreaker" and "Sinner and we are left with....a country rock feel to multiple tracks and a slow suicide song, yawn. If it weren't for this album Priest could have had 2 consecutive Masterpieces, but they just had to pop this average one in between. 9. Ram it Down: "Blood Red Skies", "Ram it Down", "Heavy Metal", and "Hard as Iron" great tracks, but.....there is that gawd awful Johnny B. Goode cover, and everything else is filler material resembling what makes up most of the dreadful "Point of Entry" album. 10. Firepower: I think they made a statement with this album. Very consistent album, not flashy, but quite listenable. 11. Angel of Retribution: "Hellrider" is amazing, imagine if this track had been featured on "Painkiller" say...instead of "Metal Meltdown", notice the similarities to each song's intro. Note: Metal Meltdown would still be the top track on at least 5 albums! 12. Redeemer of Souls 13. Nostradamus 14. Turbo: A commercial flop "wtf were they thinking after releasing the amazing DOTF album", huge letdown. Priest, I love them to death (no pun intended), but consistency is not their expertise! "Reckless", Out in the Cold", and "Turbo Lover" are enjoyable, but the rest is a disaster. 15. Point of Entry: Ahhhh yes....if there is one album I use as a punching bag more than any other it's this dreadful collection of filler tracks. I have not looked into it, but if ya told me this album was the last album to round out a contract and they were forced to release an album in '81 I would so believe it! Other than the sing along album opener and "Desert Plains".....move along...move along. 16. Rocka Rolla: Absolutely unlistenable, definitely not a metal album, guitar riffs that leave you feeling empty, the title track is about the lone catchy tune, although I will admit the lyrics in Run of the Mill run pretty deep and "Cheater" cracks me up! Amazing how this is the same band that released "SWOD" 2 years later! 17. Jugulator: As a huge fan of Priest because of Halford this album did not stand a chance. I have not listened to it since I played it the first time and I recall 2 songs somewhat memorable...one about burning in Hell and the title track. 18: Demolition: No Comment!

KK Downing said in the book, Heavy Duty, something along the lines of 'what you get on Defenders Of The Faith is 110%, top of his game, peak of his powers, Rob Halford' and I have to agree. They really pushed him to outdo himself in the studio, apparently, often asking him if he was sure that he couldn't do better, amazing take after amazing take. I listened to it again after reading that, paying particular attention to Halford's vocals, throughout. They are as powerful as fuck; all the while, still maintaining tons of personality, command and control and it fucking blew me away all over again.

Defenders of the Faith is also one of my most favorite Priest albums. And is also my favorite from their 80's also. I agree Sin after Sin is underrated. It's one of my favorites. I've always loved that album. Sad Wings is also a great album and one of my most favorites also. And STAINED CLASS is also my most favorite PRIEST album ever released. And in my opinion definitely one of the Greatest Metal albums ever released in history. Man I believe if I was to make a rankings list of their albums it would be pretty similar to your list. Verygood rankings video from my 2nd. Most favorite Metal group.🤘

British Steel blew me away when it came out. I couldn't agree more about your opinion of the songs on this album. I was a sophomore in high school and have loved old and new JP ever since. The video from The Old Grey Whistle Test of JP performing Rocka Rolla circa 1975 is amazing. Love watching them in the early years. KZbin it!

@@RuthlessMetalYT I 100% agree. I still do not understand why after Les Binks they went with Dave Holland for a drummer. No offense to Mr Holland because he was good as a in the pocket drummer but, was way too straight forward compared to their previous drummers. Not untill Scott Travis came in did the drums come back to life.
