i could listen to the steel all day long. it reminds me so of my poppa. he played it so much when he as younger. now its hard to get him to play anymore due to his loss of hearing and arthritis. he can still make it sing like nobodies business when i can get him to play though. i got a lap steel this christmas and i'm learning to play in his steed. the first song i learned to play was Steel Guitar Rag which i'm proud of. they said that was ambitious for a begginer.

It sounds beautiful and I don’t have a clue what Brian Z from 10 years was listening to but it’s very heartfelt and the best, thank you.

I had a friend I played with now and then that passed away a few years ago, the great Leo LeBlanc. He got me interested in playing and I finally got off my ass and decided to teach myself. I still haven't put too much time in it but I wanted to say thank you to you and all those who give their time in recording themselves playing. It is such a selfless service to all those learning or who just want to watch. Got a Carter and ShoBud Pro II calling my name!

I have recently purchased a lap steel guitar and am trying to learn to play. My teacher has currently given me the task of playing this tune. Watching and hearing you play it has given me renewed enthusiasm to persevere.

well actually my poppa is my grandpa. but he seems to really get his vigor back when he does play. i found it funny this christmas when i asked for help on a song and instead of just helping with that one song he went into like 6-7 others on top of that. thats why i say its bogus when he says he can't play anymore. he says that his Dobro is gonna be his gift to me when his time comes and i'm gonna definitly cherish every second i have with him and try to play with him as much as possible.

drdavidcordova suggests (6 months ago)(in spanish ) that he should wear boots for a more country style, I completely agree, but I also agree that I love the way he plays steel guitar. Rock on

Told you so, never met a steelie who wasn't a good guy (just lucky I spose) takes too much brain power to work out the instrument to leave room for being mean, love your touch bro'.

I have been playing guitar for over 50 years. I play all styles and my playing ability is comparable to John McLaughlin. When I meet guitarists, it is always a pleasure to hear someone play. I don't judge them on their ability and my hat goes off to every person who plays in public regardless of their skill level. I pick around on acoustic for fun but no one would know how I really play unless I decided to play like that. Like Bluemmons said, show the link. Stop being judgemental.

Ok - somebody smarter than I, please explain: At 1:43 he does 4 key changes without moving either hand, nor his feet (other than the trailing vibrato). How is that possible? (Is it his right foot?)

No need for an apology and I didn't mean for my comment to sound so harsh if you took it that way.
@AECEntertainment11 жыл бұрын
Hey Carl, where did you get the backing track for this song
@MrPatdeeee11 жыл бұрын
First of all I don't play it. And I was NOT being judgemental. Judgemental is "subjective" and why Jesus said, "Judge not that ye be judged". I, on the other hand was stating a fact. Proof of that is HW's original recording (easily searched on UTube). Or listen to Buddy's rendition of it. You can find that too easy. Only a deaf person could not see that my words were fact! Now you have had your say and I have had mine. I stand on what I said, and shall not respond to any more trite comments.
@MrPatdeeee11 жыл бұрын
To be truthful and let the chips fall where they may: This rendition of HW's classic, which featured Jerry Byrd, is a far cry from how this awesome song should be played. The ONLY other player I EVER heard that did it the justice that JB did, was Buddy Emmon's version on his double album cut in the fall of '77 on the stage of they old Chase Park Plaza hotel in St louis at the Steel Guitar Convention.. Dave drags the tune WAY to slow. His voicings and phrases diminishes the song. patdee

Not only is David H' a nice chap, he would never condone his name being used to diss' another player hope you guys get on well, oh but please when you post another vid' polish the shoes man, bit scruffy LoL.

Not bad, but terrible sound quality after just listening to David Hartley who is the master of pedal steel. Not picking on you, but sounds like your recording equipment isn't up to snuff or something ... sounds muffled and doesn't have the clarity all of Dave's recordings have.
