It’s a shame the man was wealthy but not wealthy enough for anyone to take care of his greatest passion or personal possessions. He obviously had a great love of books to dedicate an entire floor display for them, only to be strewn about potentially by past squatters. Hurts the heart. 6 million dollars to purchase this home only to let the ravage of time take over.

Once again you have provided us with our love of the old. Cheers mate. I'm only 4 minutes into already. Loved the bathroom floor tiles. I'm sharing this with Josh and the proper people after I've finished watching it ❤

Will be watching what happens very closely Sooper, and will be sure to share any updates. Who knows, maybe this sudden exposure may force the buyer to take action in saving it before it's too late 🤞

I came here after seeing the Newsweek article featured in Apple News, as well. I was surprised the article never mentioned finding out about the owners and why they abandoned the house. That’s typical for Newsweek’s articles but still disappointing. I’m a little mystified as why the previous owners would leave family photos, really why anything was left behind at all. I hope the new owners are okay.

Unfortunately, I was unable to find any detailed information about the buyer. I would've contacted them when I first heard it was getting trashed if that was something that was publicly accessible. Surprisingly, I come across family photos that have been left in places a lot...never understood it. Leaving everything else up there is pretty weird though. After years of accumulating it all, I wonder if something prevented them from taking it, or they just couldn't be bothered.

Awesome hey! Adelaide has been on the bucketlist for ages, will have to finally check it out one day. What's it like for bando's there compared to other states?

I was there yesterday before heading back to Perth. Sadly no access, i didn't feel like climbing onto the roof with neighbours out walking their dogs. Speaking of dogs, there's one inside the yard, I don't know how often it gets fed and water to drink, but yeah took a few photos in between patting the dog and keeping an eye out for inquisitive neighbours.

That's a shame man and don't blame you, getting on that roof doesn't look fun as it is. That's weird as! Maybe squatters are living there again? They were originally. Last I saw there was an excavator in the backyard, and it had been all dug up...is it still all dirt?

What happened to this place?? Was it sold after the before footage was made? Looks somewhat recent.
@urbexgecko
@urbexgecko Жыл бұрын
Sold after the before footage almost 2 years ago now. It dates back to early 1900's and is heritage listed, but the buyers have made no attempts to address the ongoing mould/water damage or secure the premises. People have been stealing stuff from there, and trashing it. It's a recurring theme with places like this.

@@urbexgecko that is just wild to buy a place and let it rot.

Prime real estate. Blocks of this size, let alone in upper class areas, don't come up that often. Its potential return far outweighs the $6,000,000 they paid for it.

@@urbexgecko but why let it rot? At least keep the place maintained. Doesn't need that much effort to make sure its not going to hell.

This place is spectacular. Sorry, I’m a little confused by the “before” footage at the top of the video. That’s a different house? It can’t be this one pre-abandonment as it’s far too modern. What am I missing?
@urbexgecko
@urbexgecko Жыл бұрын
It's real estate footage from when the place was for sale. It's really hard to say exactly what has and hasn't been done without access to the heritage parameters, but definitely had a fresh lick of paint and some maintenance done over the years. It looks a lot more its age in person compared to the awesome job they did with the RE footage and without all the furniture.

@@urbexgecko Oh wow, that’s unreal that that’s the same place! It’s so sad that they would leave it to rot because it wasn’t just livable, it was beautiful! I swear money is wasted on the rich!
