I saw him in Kabul eons ago. Now I’m listening to him in the U.S. I feel fortunate to be alive and still listening to him. God bless your soul, Ustad. Thanks for this masterpiece.

_Andolan gandhar_ and _dhaivat_ mesmerize as the serenity of Ustad-e-muhtarram's _aalaap_ engulfs the entire cosmos. The regal _Kharaj_ of the great Ustad makes this divine rendition even more awe-inspiring. This bandish _Mubarak badiyaan shadiyaan_ _Tohe Deni Allah Rasool_ was rendered by Ustad Fateh Ali Khan with his brother Ustad Amanat Ali Khan for _bara khayal_ before the Maharaja of Patiala who later hired them as court musicians( few years before the partition of subcontinent). Even without it, the hypnotizing _aalaap_ is alone enough to enrich the horizons of your imagination and lead one into the unseen. RIP the great Ustad 🙏

This recording, and this recording alone, is the standard to which every Ustad must aspire when singing Darbari... I'm a student of classical music and I can confidently say there is no better exponent of this raga than Ustad Fateh Ali Khan Sahib.

It is good to acknowledge good artist but to go overboard is not right. In past we had Faiaz Khan, Abdul Karim, Amir Khan and many others who put their own stamp to Darbari.

No denying other singers too excelled in Darbari. But one cannot categorize Ustad Fateh Ali second to anyone. Not in this particular one, but in another one Ustad Fateh Ali has exposed his prowess - I feel he remains unparalleled. @@shamganguly8091

Some years ago I met him in a mehefil in U.K, where the gathering was interested in gajals. He asked me about Kolkata, where he with his brother Amanat Ali made huge impact. What voice and what a kheyslist. He was borned to sing Darbari. Pity he lived in Pakistan, if he was in India he would have been put in highest pedestal. A great artist.
@qureshi7014 жыл бұрын
He and his whole family are loved and respected by every Pakistani by the core of their hearts. Money is not everything , he was awarded with the majestic pride of performance as an acknowledgement of his skills and services. Pity to those who put money at highest level.

You comments are frankly complementary but very offensive as well. He is such a great artist that he is love dearly in Pakistan, India, and world over. If Indians had not treated their minorities the way they did and do now, there would have been no partition. What happened afterwards in Pakistan is a different story, but history is repeating in India and they have not learned lessons from the past. Anyhow, may we have peace on both sides. I think people should refrain for such derogatory comments.
@shamganguly80919 ай бұрын
Maqboolji, your comment should have been restricted to music and my derogatory comment but not on ‘partition and minority problem’. Art and music are above narrowness of religion and politics. You seem to me a refined decent person and music lover. After rereading my comment which I wrote 4yrs ago, I realised I have been harsh on Pakistan for which I am sorry. It was not my intention. When I witnessed the great Ustad singing in the midst of unresponsive audience and later on was in pensive mood I was sad and then in a conversation with me he expressed how happy he was to sing in India. In another incident I was in conversation with Ustad Salamat Ali after his recital amongst responsive audience, about his sparkling performance in Calcutta in early 60’s where from his fame rocketed. He said,’ Calcutta made me Salamat Ali’. Then I asked him about Pakistan and classical music. He said and I quote,’ in Pakistan only culture is agriculture’. As you you have brought up the subject of minority problem in India , let me remind you that Pakistan do not have that problem because that the large Hindu populations ,Sikhs and Christian are mercilessly driven out. In India there is large Muslim population and other minorities. Did you hear any Muslims migrating to Pakistan or Bangladesh? In India Muslim Presidents, film stars, cricket players thrive. I shall site another example, since the creation of Pakistan you never had one stable government. Where as , with all its fault, our democracy thriving all along. I respectfully repeat your remark of peaceful coexistence.

I am a Pakistani and i do accept that Pakistani singers are much appreciated in India but we do love to the core of our heart singers like Ustad Fateh Ali and Ustad Amanat Ali. They are our pride and we feel blessed to have artists like these who have been admired all over the world by classical music lovers like yourself. Peace and respect. @shamganguly8091

He was innovative; had imagination to make the Raag sound soothing to the soul. What distinguished him apart from other singers was his professional approach. Just sit on your knees in front of him with folded hands and listen to the outstanding presentation.

I used to listen to Ustad's probably the same recoding marketed by Music Today in their gharana series, where it was featured Patiala Gharana. Ever since the arrival of digital era I was on the lookout for the digital version. I remember that the living media record was made in 1995. Thanks a lot for this upload....

@shanibochumcc6 жыл бұрын
Ustad Bade Fateh Ali Khan, the one you are listening in this video was a hardcore classical singer of the patiala gharaana. The father of Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan also having the same name was a Qawaal. And with all due respect the father of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan including he himself are NO MATCH for this legendary classical singer. Ustad Bade Fateh Ali Khan's father Ustad Akhter Hussain was also the Master of Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan who was himself a matchless singer if the name rings a bell

Jaspreet Singh yeh pakka Sangeet sunate hain. Yeh qawwali nahin gaate hain. Qawwali singing is easier to enjoy. This Ustad ji is singing music which one has to acquire a taste for. Once you start to enjoy Pakka Classical Hindustani music, there’s no going back to Qawwalis.
