I scythe the tall grass and weeds first and rake and bag. then I weed trim it and rake and bag if it is too tall, then I use the reel and trimmer once every six days. its quiet and no gas and only needs maintenance about one a year on a small yard. I like a reel as I can mow when the neighbors are asleep as it is quiet and works well once you can scythe and trim and rake and mow often.

I have to mow more often, like every 3 days. With the monsoon rains, the grass grows really fast here! I like the idea of the scythe. I have not seen one for sale here in Thailand, but I am sure someone could build one for me. I wish I could mow at night. My push power is kind of noisy. It works well, but it was rather cheap. Also, the mosquitoes come out to play at night. When it hits dusk, that is when I have to stop cutting and run for safety. Thanks for your comment!

My latest video is a sort of part 2 to the grass cutting woes. I gave in and got myself a battery-powered weed trimmer. I hope you like it! I do wish it was a scythe like you have.

There's no way I could use a push mower at our place. I'm trying to reduce the amount of lawn we have, but even then I'd have to start mowing at the beginning again every time I finish just to keep on top of it (particularly in the wet season!)

You have a point. It does grow really fast during the wet season. Our other home turns into a jungle in a blink of the eye. That house needs the has trimmers to tackle the foliage.

After that initial cut, two days later I cut the grass again. Instead of taking me an hour to cut, it only took me 10 minutes to trim things up. Good to know. Don't let ot overgrown too much.

A push mower (reel type) is best used to cut short grass. Better using a regular lawnmower first to cut the longer grass, then use the push mower on a regular basis to keep the grass trimmed. I do this at least twice a week in the growing season.

I agree. I eventually cut the grass twice a week and it was easier to manage, although some areas would have these long stalks that would sprout up super fast. Still love the push mower.
