Hi P Marie, just click on the "Subitles/Closed Captions" icon in the menu bar for English subtitles. We are aware that not all of our fans speak Swiss-German :-)

Il est difficile de se débarrasser de l'accent suisse. 😊 Oui, il n'y a qu'une seule qualité BERNINA - indépendamment du fait qu'une machine soit fabriquée à Steckborn ou en Thaïlande. Les processus sont les mêmes et nos exigences de qualité le sont également.

@@BerninaInternational oui je suis adepte de votre marque...nous avons une Bernina740 couleur kaki des années 1971, puis une Bernina artista depuis 2013 ( un cadeau pour mes 50ans...) et depuis ce week-end je rêve de la nouvelle Bernina990, découverte au Carrefour européen du patchwork à Sainte Marie aux Mines ( Alsace -FRANCE )

@@AnyBarth-tu6qi Nous connaissons très bien le salon de Ste Marie aux Mines. Il se trouve que Cecilia Koppmann, qui a enseigné à l'EPM, visite aujourd'hui notre usine à Steckborn. L'EPM est un spectacle chaque année et nous sommes heureux que BERNINA France soit sur place et que vous ayez pu découvrir la B 990. Merci beaucoup pour votre fidélité à notre marque ! Why do they wear mouth masks in a modern factory . It must be quite uncomfortable all day?

Dear Leetrys, thanks for asking. The production halls of our Thailand assembly are well ventilated; it is not necessary to wear face masks. As you can see in the video, some employees wear them and some don't. In Asian countries, the use of face masks is widespread - much more so than in Western cultures. People wear them to protect the respiratory tract from pollution and infection and to prevent the spread of viruses they might be carrying. Kind regards from Switzerland

@@BerninaInternational I can testify to that phenomenon occurring in Japan. If people have a cold they will wear a face mask out of respect for others to try and avoid spreading their infection to others. However, they will also wear a mask to try and prevent getting a cold or the flu as well. On the other hand, my Bernina serger has been off-gasing toxic fumes from industrial chemicals for years and I would worry about my lungs if I had to work in a factory that made them all day, every day. Do you measure air quality for your workers and offer transparency to them on the quality of the air they are breathing? Does your factory provide transparency in terms of reporting on your ecological footprint/carbon footprint in their country? I would love to see a link to a report on your corporate citizenship scorecard.

However, we fully meet all the requirements in terms of air pollution control in both our plants and strive to keep our ecological footprint as small as possible. In this context, it is also important to note that BERNINA machines are built for generations. This makes them more sustainable than cheaply produced products that have to be replaced after a relatively short use. So sad that they cannot be lovingly made in Switzerland. I cannot fathom that they are made in the same manner that a cheap machine, one would purchase at Walmart. I hated seeing them smack together on a conveyor belt like cheap junk.. People are spending "top dollar" for the Bernina name, thinking it represents quality. The Swiss machines were quality and parts are now becoming impossible to locate for the older Swiss machines..

Hi Richard, BERNINA sewing machines are developed, designed and tested at the plant in Steckborn, Switzerland. Our second plant, BERNINA Thailand, was founded in 1990. It maintains high Swiss quality standards and is under Swiss management. Although we strive to keep production costs low to weather the global economic challenges of today, including an exceptionally strong Swiss franc, we always try to achieve the highest quality standards. Still they are made in Thailand, not Switzerland.. That is an issue. That is the equivalent of stating that a BMW automobile made in China is just as well made as one in Germany.. It is not acceptable. Many Americans are purchasing the Bernina under the guise that they are "Swiss Made" and have the quality of a "Swiss Made" product..

Dear Richard, we very openly communicate that BERNINA runs two factories, one in Steckborn, Switzerland (which btw. is the last remaining plant for household sewing machines in the western world), and one in Thailand. See for example www.bernina.com/en-US/Why-BERNINA-US/Sustainability/BERNINA-Factories. The same is true for BMW, a company with production sites in Brasil, India, China, Thailand etc.
