Mr King was so lucky to have a partner so supportive of his work.
@christinabernat96818 жыл бұрын
imbecilik yes totally, but she was also very very lucky because she has a husband who totally respected her feelings - he did not expect or demand this support and would have absolutely taken that moonlighting job if she had said to do that. Whar is really happening here is that these two were totally in love AND in respect with each other and that is the true reason the wirld gas the result of that geeat love and commitment and oersistence. If he had not totally and deeply felt content with her his writing would have never become this real and honest and amazing. So she was a tremendous and supportive wife but he was also a tremendous and supportive husband. And from both of them this came naturallly and was not forced. They would have remained devoted to each other and in love lifelong even if money and fame never came. This we all lucked out as a result of because from that REAL and MUTUAL love and respect their talents filled our lives with so much love (through the books, poems, movies, etc ) as well!

I know this will sound weird to some people and to some they will sadly know where I'm coming from. Stephen King saved my sanity as a teenager. When i read his books i could leave my horrible home life for a few chapters at a time. If I'm honest more than a few chapters at a time. But i digress. When people talk about his drug/alcohol abuse. He's human. Shit happens. Mr. King is the one who told us He had a problem. He's overcome His addictions and is a better man for it. Also from what i see and hear His kids are well adjusted human beings. Be like Stephen King!

Never changes. If you are popular - you can't be "good" in the eyes of the professionally aesthete. (ahem - snobs) No one does characterisation better than SK. Never mind plots and scene setting suspense. Just for his ability to describe utterly believable characters who hit you emotionally sets him right up there with the very, very best.

Man of letters. Literature in a popular style means people care, and it provides a means to reach people. Steven King tells good stories and often has good character acrs of good and evil.

Mr. King has a great sense of humor when he writes (see Rip Rip for example) while taking the tragic and forcing that part of us to laugh when we know we shouldn't, because it is schadenfreude and nobody wants to be like that, but...it's just so absurd. Then, King gives you an escape hatch like, if you knew Rip Rip and what was going on at the time when Rip Rip makes his big splash well you might be forgiven for cracking up. In my opinion Stephen King is always writing on the Thinny and he might be one of the very last to write on the half-shell. Like his other fellow champions such as Philip Jose Farmer; Kilgore Trout will still be seen here and there. I admire the greats and Stephen King is one of them without question. This award was earned.

@@benverburg Because they're snobs. The National Book Awards usually go to "literary fiction" writers, and Stephen's a popular writer, meaning he writes books that normal people read.

I think it speaks volumes about the literary establishment that there was opposition to giving an award to Stephen King, the bestselling author in the world and a man who came from nothing, as opposed to the usual routine of awarding some obscure, impenetrable, over-educated art wanker from a privileged background. Stephen King and his impact on literature and culture will still be remembered 50-100 years from now. Meanwhile it's been less than 20 years since these awards and most people have already forgotten the 2003 winner (if they ever knew or cared about her in the first place), remembering her only for her tirade against Stephen King. I don't mind when people genuinely disagree over what may or may not have artistic merit, but I do have a problem with the wilfully ignorant using their own insularity, privilege and exclusivity to falsely claim intellectual superiority over everyone else. Or to put it in the much-maligned layman's terms: The snobs really need to be taken down a peg.
