Brilliant talk! I believe that it is the basic truth as for today: once the Palestinians will have leaders that support peace there will be peace in the Middle East. All they have to do is to accept the existence of Israel. The rest is straightforward. May god give them the wisdom to choose peace.

I would have to read his books again....it has been 30 years, but I will respond later about how much he was accurate.

Misleading description. They actually don't discuss the book at all. I am reading the book and hoped for a shortcut, but this is not it.

The political support for tyrants was a big problem for the Palestinian national community and for those who truly support their community, peace and a two-state solution, on the grounds of self-interest as well as morality this must be critiqued.

Thanks for bringing this to public attention and for your detailed and rigorous scholarship Prof. Lewis.

Incentivizing extremism helps no one but ironically, most strongly hurts the very people that both religious extremists on the one hand, hostile anti-Israel Western far-left elites on the other, see themselves as helping. Yet rewarding violence never helps anyone and is in fact a serious obstacle to the development of civil society and internal democracy, which would facilitate compromise and peace, or at least be a necessary precondition for either. And for hope for the future.

Wow I was watch the godfather! Angle talking , toxic/criminal deeds and action. He was always starting where ever it suits his discussion through the time line but never from the beginning!!! So the victim becomes aggressor and vice versa. Most of the people don’t differentiate between technology and modernisation vs civilisation!? It’s funnel down to ethics and morality rather than knowledge, information or intelligence!

What is happening today is that evil people will write or talk about a crime that they will commit in the future, then when the time come, these evil people commit that crime and then tell the sheeple.. see we told you.. it is in the bible or it is in history book

LOLOLOL - 10:00 or so - Rose says "radical..." and then you can see (and hear) almost "...Islam" or the like and almost chokes on his words in stopping himself. Boy i so remember those days. Are we still more afraid of irritating people than we are about international terrorism?

@ArmenianAlchemist - a citation, please. I've heard B Lewis many times but never heard him deny the massacres of Armenians. [under the elastic definition of genocide, those massacres qualify. but, it must be remembered that the Turks did not aspire to annihilate all Armenians. they wanted to subjugate, expel or murder any significant national minority, including, of course, Armenians. while you might object to the distinction or question its significance, it is based on fact and, however barbarous, is light years away from german savagery.] at any rate, please provide citations to direct, verifiable statements on the basis of which you assert that Prof Lewis is a genocide denier.

@ArmenianAlchemist so we are insulting scholars for having a different opinion, that they are basing on evidences like telegrams, letters, documents and other studies? Note how most "historians" that criticize him or other historians like Justin McCarthy never actually even bothered to use the Ottoman state archives(that are open in contrast to the Armenian ones) nor can't even read the Ottoman script. You are probably not even a historian, but want to tell one of the biggest experts about the middle-east and it's history, that he is wrong, because your nationalistic background denies any debate?
@lightweight98153 жыл бұрын
@ArmenianAlchemist Yeah, absolutely true, that someone gets banned for looking only at documents..Sounds legit😴 Btw why is the manifesto of your 1. President Hovhannes Kajaznuni, where he states things like "At the beginning of the Fall of 1914 when Turkey had not yet entered the war but had already been making preparations, Armenian revolutionary bands began to be formed in Transcaucasia with great enthusiasm and, with especially, much uproar. Contrary to the decision taken during their general meeting at Erzurum only a few weeks before, the A.R.F. had [actively participated] in the formation of the bands and their future military action against Turkey. « In an undertaking of such gravity, fraught with most serious consequences, individual agents of the Transcaucasian A.R.F. acted against the wiIl of our superior authority, against the will of the General Meeting of the Party... In the Fall of 1914 Armenian volunteer bands organized themselves and fought against the Turks because they could not refrain… from organizing and… fighting. This was (in) [sic.] an inevitable result of a psychology on which the Armenian people had nourished itself during an entire generation : that mentality should have found its expression, and did so. » (p. 5)", banned in Armenia and the distribution or publishment of it prohibited by law?
