I never actually met my great grandfather,Gombrich, so seeing this recordings him was really cool.

A very fine art historian. A great man. His book "The Story of Art" was a set book in an OU Course I took in the 1960s. Co-incidentally my grand-daughter who is studying fine art has listed that as a 2001Christmas gift. Gombrich was a close friend of Karl Popper, a fellow Austrian and (in my humble opinion) one of the greatest philosophers of the 20th century. They both took out British citizenship. You should be very proud. (UK)

Best art historian and writer on art ever, imo. Very down to earth, when so much writing about art is sickeningly airy-fairy. I would recommend his "The Story of Art" as the best introduction to the subject for a newcomer.

This book is incredible! It changed the way I look at the world. It’s arguably the best art book ever.

Why does the interviewer keep interrupting him. I wish they wouldn't do that. Gombrich is in the middle of answering and gets cut off, he's so polite that he doesn't finish his thought but answers the new question - bad listening on the part of the interviewer.

Ernst Gombrich, Student of the University of Vienna, an incredible school that many of us Americans know little about the names of these artists, I always wondered why that is....any help here.

If u mean Vienna Artists. Here are some pointers: "Vienna Secession": Klimt, Kokoschka, Schiele. (The two Wars time is "complicated"). "Vienna School of Phantastic Realism". Arnulf Rainer (Galerie nächst St. Stephan). Viennese Actionism: Nitsch. Videoart: Peter Weibel, Valie Export, "Neue Wilde": Siegfried Anzinger, Herbert Brandl. Hundertwasser, Franz West, Erwin Wurm, Heimo Zobernig. Imho Schiele and Zobernig are absolutely significant. cheers

I wish the interviewer cared about and were much more self educated and prepared for this opportunity 😢
