Alan, finally some good news about the manure system because I know you went through a lot of effort on your manure system a couple years ago.. Farming is hard enough without the aggravated worry about an item that you thought you had it done years ago. I think you mixing the dairy feed yourself will be more advantageous to you Moneywise and [you understand the needs of your cattle]. Good show! As always be careful, Skip, Western PA

I know our neighbor had on for years, and they were having to pump up hill all the way. They eventually did away with it, and just poured a small reception pit in the whole area where the ramp pump used to be to hold a weeks worths of manure, and then they pump it from there to their big pit. No more buried lines, you can mix it a little bit before pumping it out to get the consistency more even to prevent plugging.

Good to hear that you have your manure system working again. Manure systems can be one of the biggest hang ups on a tie stall barn. I like the looks of the dairy ration you are making, got to do everything you can to keep costs in check, and making your own feed is definitely one way.

More of a pain with straw an hay unless the barn cleaner goes right up the chute into a pile or spreader etc etc. The pumps hate solid materials. Happy farming 😊

Now could be the time to upgrade to a paddle style gutter cleaner elevator extention to the lagoon. The extention could even be made with a slide or drop bottom lid that could be opened if you wanted to put manure directly into a regular manure spreader, prior to reaching the lagoon.

Happy New Year.... Glad you can use your manure pump at least somewhat. Our cows have been staying out all day too. I agree with you, they tend to get a little bruised in the stanchions even with good bedding.

Look into a CHI 1350 grinder. Ours has a high stack electric swing unload auger and scale on it we have had one for yrs snd has served us very well

I have seen a processor that hooks in front of the bagger, and it gives you an option for HMSC or earlage as well. Might be cheaper than retrofitting the chopper or buying a newer one with a processor. Just a thought, in case you hadn't seen one.👍👍
