The Shahnama or ‘The Book of Kings’ is the world’s longest epic poem written by a single poet. For centuries the Shahnama was a staple in education for young princes all over Iran, Central Asia, and beyond. Nicoletta Fazio, Assistant Curator at Museum of Islamic Art Doha Qatar, takes us through one of the museum’s masterpieces and the most luxurious illustrated manuscript ever produced for a king in the Persianate world.
