Too be young and have the money back then I'd make you an offer. I encountered the Manx Norton at the same time I was buying a 1953 C Model Vincent Black Shadow, keeping in mind that I was around 16 at the time, being born in 1948. I was racing Hondas, and my daily rider was a Triumph 110. The Manx had the performance to best the Vincent most of the time, but it beauty of the Vincent engine engineering and flawless frame dependably astounded me, it was without reproach, my close friend and racing brother bought the Manx and the was nothing that could challenge us on the streets of Dallas, Texas at the time. We were well beyond 'Ton Up' reality.

You are never too old. I was born in 1949 and still riding Vincents. Happy days.

The last manx norton I saw was on a pub bar in Bolton.My mate in south Australia had the inter Norton.I'm 79yrs old,or I would buy it.

I use to have a drink on a Sunday next to that very same bike prior to going up to Rivington barn, the pub was called The Squirrels and now has a few bespoke houses built on where it once stood. Think there was also a Manx stood in the window of an insurance brokers (Smiths?) in Bolton on Manchester Road near Orlando bridge.

@@ianrobertsonRR1 Do you remember the 'Waterworks TT' between leigh and Wigan?I worked at Vicars in earlestown as a fitter and turner apprentice in 1961.Used to make 'clip on bars' for a fiver. Used to operate a gear planer and chainwheel sprocket machines,back sprockets were popular with 3 teeth less than the originals.Talked to Mike hailwood at silverstone when he raced a 'Ducati dresda (12 gears)Asked him how he knew what gear he was in,he said 'I just keep pressing'.

That bike is way more beautiful that modern aerodynamic bikes designed by computer programs

What a beautiful machine, and what a beautiful smile on your face when the engine starts! But unfortunately I'm a little short on £ in my wallet. 😒

The carb is an Amal GP not a TT and the front brake is not Norton its an Italian Fontana,

Thanks for the info.

No, it's a 230 mm Ceriani brake, Fontanas were either 210 or 250 mm.

I stand corrected, a frequent occurrence in my life, at least I got the country of origin right. LOL@@joepkortekaas8813

I most apologize for one of my many life errors at least I I got the country of origin for the brake. The last of the Plumsted Manx Nortons had a twin double leading shoe front brake., which was replaced with lighter Italian Fontana or Ceriani hubs. This advertised Manx is a wonderful example of one of the best bikes ever produced and my hope is that the current owner gets a good price for it.@@joepkortekaas8813

Was looking at a friends -59 350 Manx in 1967 and wondering how it was to ride it. It came up for sale some years ago. Took me some years renovating it. Now has ridden it 5 years in classic events. Handles as good as any featherbed Norton. But completely dead under 4000 rpm. Happy up to 8200 without valve float. A three steps push starter. But I've kept it as it was in the sixties with faded paint and battle scars. Primary chain guard dented after chain broke at 6th lap in Junior TT in -63.

Hmmm…..misplaced nostalgia for old junk. Rose tinted glasses and the fog of time, blah, blah. Just my opinion, of course… Someone will doubtless enjoy this machine, Knock a nought of the price and you’ll be somewhere near what it;s worth.
@joepkortekaas881313 күн бұрын
You're absolutely wrong - something is worth what somebody is prepared to pay for it!

Kind of agree, well into my Laverdas in the early 80's then got the models of bikes I owned back then over the past three years.........all sold now. Wish I had just left them as memories really.
