Wow, Saw John Kay at the "Bitter End" in NY performing this solo album. They performed the whole album. It was great. The albums Name is exactly what it is and it was a favorite of mine. "Bold Marauder" comes to mind and of course" Moving On"

Classic John Kay.

Credits to the drummer, Penty "Whitey" Glan, he died in a car accident but he is to be remembered as a fine musician that contributed to the John Kay solo álbum "Forgotten songs and unsung heroes"

I think you are thinking of Jerry Edmonton.
@tedchiba54422 жыл бұрын
Yes Les is correct. Jerry Edomonton and his brother, Mars Bonfire,were with John Kay during the Sparrow days. Both Jerry and Mars were Canadian.

Steppenwolf forever!!!!

LOVE THIS ONE, AS I LOVE ALL OF JOHN KAY'S SOLO TUNES. WISH SOMEBODY OUT THERE HAD A CLIP OF JOHN DOING.........WALK BESIDE ME..........I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THAT ONE.

Connie Wright Yes! "Walk Beside Me", what a great song! In Vietnam Nam, around 1973, a friend of mine loaned me a cassette tape by John Kay which was "Forgotten Songs and Unsung Heroes" I listened to that album off and on for months with headphones. Kent Henry's guitar solo to me is one of the best ever! This is absolutely one of my favorite albums.

beautiful song originally wriiten by native American sung well by one my fave vocalists John kay
@templetonparceley86453 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the native American folksinger was one Patrick Sky.But he was a real good artist who's got an undeserved obscurity in the history of American folk rock.

Man I wish that I could've seen the John Kay band live back in the day, but this here is close enough for me! Great stuff, don't know how John didn't make it as a solo artist, probably locked into the Steppenwolf image. Thanks so much for this great clip!

I just noticed something, the stage is the same one that you see if you watch the video of Steppenwolf doing "Born to be wild" on the old grey whistle test video, I wonder if they did them both on the same day and John just changed around, George has the same clothes on and as you remember Kay's solo band opened for Steppenwolf on that tour! Hmmmm.........
@feedbak0077 жыл бұрын
According to Whitey ,the Drummer, it was almost the same band, one member different if I recall....funny
@lesschoenberger30706 жыл бұрын
Mic feedbak Two members different, Penti "Whitey" Glan instead of Jerry Edmonton on drums and Hugh O' Sullivan on organ instead of Goldy McJohn. So sad that all of them have passed already along with Kent Henry who was in the band on guitar along with bassist George Biondo who did "double duty" as Kay "piggybacked" his solo band on this tour with the Wolf.

I honestly wish Penty to be alive, if that is so, my aplogies therefore but I read it on Wikipedia under his name some time ago. I knew that Jerry died in a car accident in the mid nineties, he was a devoted photographer at that time

Why isn't Jerry on the drums?
@lesschoenberger30703 жыл бұрын
Because this was the John Kay band formed after Steppenwolf broke up 2/14/1972. But they regrouped again in 1974.
@Pray2Jah9 жыл бұрын
Edgar..you buried Penti Glan too early...former drummer for Alice Cooper..alive and well...your thinking of Steppenwolfs drummer Jerry Edmonton. .RIP...whose brother changed his name to Mars Bonfire who wrote Born to be Wild
@stevesimms96227 жыл бұрын
Far as I know, Penti is still alive & kickin. I have an original album version of this song, "Forgotten Songs & Unsung Heroes" that my brother gave me for Christmas the year it came out. Since it would take a sizeable bulldozer to dig it out & check the names, who was his guitar player on this one?
@lesschoenberger30707 жыл бұрын
Steve Simms the guitar player was Kent Henry who you see playing here, sadly he passed several years ago.
@lesschoenberger30706 жыл бұрын
And sadly Penti passed a few months ago now too.....
