They were sued before s2 started, about 60,000 pounds worth and failed a bunch of health and safety inspections. It was also found that most of the employees haven't had the proper training to do the jobs they do, hence why the episode started with employee training. Struggling as in they didn't make the same as the previous years, since it seems like they don't re-invest the money they make into the company and their loans but straight up pocket it. Meaning a couple down months can destroy 20 years of work since they have no real savings but only possessions.

I don't actually know Landie, I just remember a vague story, in the Bolton News I think, that the series had been pulled at the very last minute due to legal reasons. There was all kinds of speculation in the comments section of the Bolton News that the main man was in trouble with the VAT man and some of the scenes depicted might affect the case, but it's just that, speculation. It must have been something for them to cancel a successful series, already in the can, days before transmission, as I recall. It was supposedly "postponed" but has still never surfaced.

The employee training and finical troubles were true, but were exaggerated. A company that has been around 20 years shouldn't be able to go under in the span of 2-4 months of sub-par business and a small lawsuit. They lost a court battle with an employee that cost them close to 60,000 pounds, Terry accepted charges of threatening his employee when they were suing him, failed both health and safety inspections after the court battle, and the court pretty much called them incompetent. That was all real.
