Today we're kicking off another new series with Nicole - a dating and mystery simulator. Nicole's just a normal girl starting at university and looking for a boyfriend. Unfortunately, girls are being abducted from the campus, and it's up to Nicole to solve the mystery, while hopefully not dating the culprit... Let's start off by meeting Boyfriend Suspect #1.
Nicole is by Winter Wolves Games - www.winterwolves.com/

Two to a bedroom isn't uncommon in American university dorms. GE probably stands for general education. Four year degrees tend to be about half classes in your major, and half a multi-disciplinary package required of all students. That arrangement of classes is called "general education, or gen ed; though GE isn't that common. Law is considered a post-graduate program. Pre-law is the bachelor's degree to prepare for higher level work in a full law program. Didn't see this, at least not in the upper comments, hope it's useful info.

I would love for you to carry this on, Jon. Also why I am here I'd like to say thank you for a constant good quality of video with attention to detail and viewer satisfaction. As a long time viewer I would just like to say that it is only a matter of time before this channel really takes off, subscription rates are already increasing. So before you become uber famous and can still read all of your comments (I hope you do) I would just like to say thank you for promoting a good standard of video production that I hope EVERY other channel takes not of.

I completely agree with you about American Universities. Taking classes irrelevant to one's major is such a waste of money!
@ManyATrueNerd
@ManyATrueNerd 9 жыл бұрын
Claire & I have discussed this before, because she went through the French education system, and I went through the British one, and in Britain we specialise very early - as young as 16, you've picked out 2 or 3 subjects that will be the specialism you take to university, and then at university, it's generally one and only one thing. Personally, I like that system.
@Beatlejuice64
@Beatlejuice64 9 жыл бұрын
Many A True Nerd I think that sounds like a great system! In America, you're required to learn a variety of generalized subjects throughout high school (math, English, history, science, physical ed), with only a little bit of control over a few elective classes (art, music, theater, shop, etc.) Then in college, a lot of people don't really know what they want to do so they change their major 2 or 3 times, and the people who DO know what they want to study are still required to take certain required courses (math, English, history, science) that have nothing to do with their specialization. If university is going to be so expensive, kids should not be forced to take a class they will never need to use in their chosen career! It is quite frustrating. I think the idea is that American universities want to make sure their students receive a well-rounded education, but in theory, they should be getting that in high school! I think it would be much more worthwhile to make sure high school education is done well than to spend time on general education in college. It's even possible for someone to receive a Bachelor's degree in General Studies, which really isn't a useful degree.

To compare to my brief high school experience in the St. Andrews University dorms, where they were generally six bedrooms, each with a sink to wash up a shared bathroom. Comparatively, what is shown in Nicole lines up with my experience. My Freshman year, it was a 3 bedroom unit with 4 other blokes, two showers, two toilets, common room and galley kitchen (and my school was a-typical with the apartment style). Sophmore year, I was in a studio with a full kitchen, one other bloke and a goodly sized bathroom (one toilet, one shower/bathtub). Junior year, it was a two bedroom with common area, 3 other blokes and a decent loo (shower/toilet) and Senior year, it was technically the same setup as sophomore, except at that point I had complete choice or room and was rooming with a co-worker in the dorm (we were both with housing) so while it was TECHNICALLY a studio, the kitchen split it into two massive rooms. But, my experience is a-typical given the school I was at, though other dorms had other options too, and I know that (generally) the shared room dormitories are the truth.

Yeah, sharing rooms is a common thing in the United States. I mean, at least at my university, you CAN get a single room, but it was $9,000 a year instead of the $6,000 for the double (And I lived in the cheap dorms). Also, some colleges require freshman to live on campus in a dorm, but others don't. It just depends.
@blitzstrahl
@blitzstrahl 9 жыл бұрын
So a shared room is $500 per month. Seems pretty high to me. Is food included?
@OmnihexGames
@OmnihexGames 9 жыл бұрын
blitzstrahl Nope! Some places actual require those living on campus to add on a school food plan, which are very expensive. At least it was for my school since all that was available for students to eat were fast food places at an average of $6 a meal (Thankfully, my school didn't require it. Biking to the grocery store cost a fifth of what my roommate paid for food). The cost of rent included utilities, though, so that's nice. Still too expensive, though, especially considering that it was actually around $750/month since we weren't allowed to stay there during the summer and winter breaks.

I am loving the series so far. I needed a nice change of pace after watching the NV and F3 videos and this is nice. I am almost tempted to stop watching because the game does look interesting. Depends on your University, but generally yes. You will share a room at least your first and second years, after that it will depend on what you find for "off-campus" apartments. I knew a couple of guys who shard a one bed room apartment to save money. Not that uncommon really. Yes our Universities are very very wired. It is not uncommon for people to not decide a major until their 3rd year of Uni. General Ed courses are required (though I do not know why as I learned most of the Algebra and English courses in High School). Only exception is "specialized" schools (technical, nursing, religious). They usually make more sense. Usually. Mostly. At least their degrees actually have chance of landing you a job in your career field. In American English, "pissed" is not that harsh of word. Just meaning really upset. Similar to how your British English uses "Foxtrot Alpha Golf" (phonetic spelling) as a common slang for a cigarette, where in American English it is a rude homophobic term that should not be spoken. I have encountered a few of these "cultural misunderstandings" before when I was in the US Army (reserve). And knowing is half the battle. G.I. JOE, YO JOE!

I just started watching this series because Jon and Claire mentioned it during the "No Kill" Fallout 4 livestream. Just first impressions here, but my neck hurts from the whiplash of Jon's feelings towards Jeff. "He's great! He's a scientist!" "He's a creepy bastard for unbuttoning his shirt!" "He's awesome because he uses the word 'snazzy'!" "He's the serial abductor because he's studying pharmacology!" Oddly, Jon is probably right about all of his impressions. He has an uncanny ability to call things in games long before they are revealed.

Most first year students share a room. However, it's strange that her school seems to have put sheets on her bed and maybe even laid out a carpet and drapes. It'd make sense that Chandra brought a carpet and the drapes, but bringing sheets for your roommate is weird. Also the fact that the carpet, sheets, and drapes are so carefully color coordinated indicates they have been purchased by the same person...

With collage dorms, usually you always share with one or two other people, but you don't have to stay in a dorm unless you are a freshman that goes to school outside of your hometown. Many students who do go to school out of town only live in the dorms for freshman year because it is mandatory sometimes, and it is usually rather expensive. After freshman year, students usually move into apartments close to campus. Or, if you live in the town/city that the collage is in, then you don't have to stay in a dorm.

I know this is a year late but.. As an American college student, if you want to live by yourself in the dorms it costs you twice as much to stay in that dorm room. Some colleges make dorms mandatory for your first semester however not all do. The university I go to is very lenient and I'm currently living in an apartment off campus which I've been doing since my second year.

Reign it’s one of those things that exist on principle. The reasoning is that college shouldn’t just be prepping you for a job (that’s supposed to be the job of a trade school) but is supposed to be creating more well rounded people who will be able to draw on their vast knowledge base to help them throughout their lives. It’s why high school students have to read the classics. It helps them become cultured and while it may not affect them directly, the themes presented can be applied later.

Yes, sharing rooms is normal in American dorms. Most universities make you do GE, or General Education requirements, which usually consists of several basic classes in multiple disciplines. Some fields (like law or medicine) make you finish preparatory programs before going on to work on a graduate, master's or doctoral program. Also, I'm gonna pass on future episodes of Nicole. The art is flimsy, the writing is just not good, and in half an hour of gameplay I haven't seen anything I liked.

Jon Von Basslake It's very mild, something you could also use playfully/as a term of endearment.

Depending on the American University you can either have your own room or have to share, it really just depends on the school. It just makes it easier to get as much money as possible when you just smash people into rooms together. Americans are greedy bastards. Also we have General Education classes that no matter what your Major is you have to take. These can include English Composition, Physical Education, General Psychology, a science course usually of your choosing, and mathematics. I think it is just to make the students a little more well-rounded. *The more you know*

It's honestly more of a way to compensate for how bad the regular public schooling system can be. It's also usually possible to test out of those requirements.

59:10 (roughly) aulthough jon wouldn't it be alittle too obvious for the kidnapper to be jeff because im pretty sure the game could be trying to make you think its him purposely just to throw you off (typically speaking)

28:55 Of course he has an interest how drugs affect the human body, he's studying pharmacology! That's (I would presume) what that subject is about. PS: I can also see why people would laugh in her face when she said she would go to university(let alone a prestigious one). So far the only reason I can see how she got in there would be someone in the administration desperately needed to fill some gender quota.

DeHerg she had all the community service to fill out her college apps... now you may have read “she did a lot of community service”, but no, I said she did ALL the community service. There was literally nothing left she could do to improve her community. She created a utopia in order to get into college
