this episode makes me legit cry at the end. Mao Mao seeing that in the end, he has people who love him for him, whether he's a legendary hero or not. seeing that realization on his face and he begins to smile and tear up was so perfect!

The herosim in Mao is why I really love his character. He as child he had no one who loved him but wanted to be like his family cause they're great heroes. Really at the time mao only had bao bao and as he grew up he met more strong friends who love him for who is. Besides that its really deep episode

I have a theory. It has come to my attention that early in his life, mao maos family kept him from being a hero, dropping him off at the nearby village, and not showing any encouragement when he tried to show interest. Why wouldn't they want him to be a hero? Well I have a theory that mao mao nearly died at birth. This near tragedy made them reevaluate life a little bit, and made his parents protective of him. They went through a phase where he was sheltered from the world. How does he not know about butterflies? He was never really taught about the world, he was kept indoors, where it was safe, where they could protect him. When they went away, they dropped him off at his aunt Glorias, who led a quiet life, not really caring about heroics, or codes of honor and such (we see this through the caubler on her window). They thought they were protecting him, but in reality the neglect hurt him more then any monster ever would. "Say hi to your mommy. I would if she was here" he loves his family, and as a young child, he looked up to them. The only place he really could take comfort was bao bao. He didn't care about maos flaws, he was happy to have a friend. However, bao bao was still a dog, and couldn't really express complex emotion, so mao mao didn't really understand that the dog had other interests, or was distracted easily. And that's why when bao bao fled from the cave, excited chasing(was it a butterfly, I forget, someone clarify in the comments), mao mao was devastated, it once againg brought him back to the feeling of abandonment that his family had made him feel. This snap of reality was so sharp, it really made him become hostile. After some time recovering from the loss of his tail he began training, harder than he ever had. He got back on his feet. And this was when his family knew, that they couldn't protect him forever, so it was time to let him make his mark on the world. However, mao mao was still broken, and still felt neglected, and he repressed his upbringing, and for some time, was a loner(now we know him and Tanya were partners, but we don't know showing ago it was, my guess was when they were kids, and it was some time after mao lost his tail and started growing hostile at the world that they grew apart) until he met baderclops, and met adorabat. He saw bits and pieces of himself in her, and so, he became her mentor, some would even say, a father. Mao Mao has never fully recovered from his past, but he has found support from his friends. And thus, a hero was born

Screw his aunt, she attacked Mao Mao for no reason. After all, Aunt Gloria only shows up at the end of the episode and should have no idea of what Just transpired a moment ago. Which means she would've attacked him anyway, Flimborg or not. Man, Shin was a really bad judge of character to leave Mao Mao in this town, you mess up on your first impression and the villagers will hate you forever, they're just so cruel and unforgiving towards Mao Mao for making honest mistakes. It makes me mad so at them for making no attempt to explain more about the Flimborg to Mao Mao. They're just asking for this to happen someday.
