The Maonocaster E2 is one of the follow-ups to the original Maonocaster. A product that I outright refused to recommend and made a whole video ranting about it. Now they're back after some time and discussion with myself on an upgrade. Is this redemption or another failed attempt?

Very interesting. I saw some glowing reviews of the original and was close to buying one for my livestreams until I saw your review. This updated version has piqued my curiosity again. I currently use the Wave XLR for my streams, but I'm keen to have the side chain option that this offers.

I'm glad that my previous review helped, I couldn't believe half the reviews I watched on the original as it was a complete contradiction to the tests I ran and they almost felt like a press release than a review. You've got yourself a good interface. The Wave XLR has some incredible preamps, and I think the E2 could be a good combination with it. Let me know if you go for it as I'd be interested in the results you discover!

@@ChrisWilmshurst I use the Wave XLR with the EV RE20 dynamic mic and I don't need a cloud lifter, which is unusual. In fact, with a cloud lifter, the signal is absolutely cooked, which tells me the pre-amps on the Wave are great. You can add EQs, a noise gate, compression, etc in software, but I prefer adding them via hardware. Our main podcast studio setup uses a Rodcaster Pro and Procaster mics, and each mic needs a cloud lifter. It'll be interesting to see/hear what this new version you reviewed can do with gain-hungry mics.

I think having the power and data on a separated usb-c port is a good thing. It has an option to totally stop charging while using the USB in your computer. It somehow prolongs battery life. My cheaper soundcards combine both data and charging in a single port which becomes problematic in the long run.

Great video. For some reason my sound effects or anything with Bluetooth are not coming through in my videos. I can hear them fine on my headphones. My audio from my microphone comes through perfectly also in my videos. I've tried several different usb-c cables and various connection combinations and still nothing. Maybe my ears are off, but it sounded like all of the mic tests were a little...crispy...not just the one where you noted some distortion. A couple of the other early YT reviews also noted what sounded like a little bit of distortion. Are my ears messing with me or is there a little bit of inherent degradation of audio quality with this device?

I too think the mic tests through Maono sounded more harsh. The audio of your regular portions sounds much smoother, much fuller, and make me ask “what’s your regular audio chain?” because it sounds so much nicer.

Hey thanks for the kind words. There shouldn't be any issues in performance when running both microphones together. But you will be limited by the single track feed into your computer as it doesn't support multitrack unfortunately. So if you can live with two feeds on one track it should be fine.

Thank you for this thorough video on the AME2. Mine just arrived today and the only issue I'm running into is that the soundpad volume is capped at a certain level (significantly lower than all other channels, even with the pad control all the way up). Any advice or suggestions on how to resolve?

It’s really simple, you’ll just plug in another microphone with one of the connections and then depending which one you use there will be a volume slider for that one. But they will be recorded to the same channel

I would love to get it but it not having 2 xlr inputs is a deal breaker and it not allowing playback without monitoring. also wishing it had an SD card slot as you mentioned. If they do make an E3 I hope they bring back the aluminum chasis, and ad sd and 2 xlr inputs.

Ever since I ripped part the AM100 Maonocaster they've assured me there is a brand new version coming in the future which should address a lot of the issues so I'd keep an eye out for that.

Hi there, I use OBS to broadcast to KZbin or Twitch, is there any issues using that software with this product? Also, if I play some tune/effects from my computer say using VLC can I use that to set one of the custom effects 60sec or 20s or only takes micro/BT ?

You should have no issues using this for streaming (it’s designed for it) in terms of recording effects, you’ll need to record it into the microphone or use a Bluetooth connection (it’s a pain, but it works)

When using it, did you have an issue with hearing yourself? With the first maonocaster I had an issue with the monitor knob turning town the sound and everything else, and no one was able to hear me. Is this issue present on the new maonocaster?

Thank you for this video! I recently started working from home, so I'm looking for something to use for conference calls and to clean up my audio. Better interface and mic than comes on my work laptop. I would love a device that can take audio inputs from several devices so I can mix them and use them to hear the inputs and output the mix to the PC for calls. You could potentially do it. There's an XLR input, instrument input, two aux inputs, and BT connection. So you could make it work.

Hey Kris, there isn't any software needed for this. It should work if you plug into your iPad Pro with USB C... in regards to bluetooth connection, this does not support bluetooth output, only input. you'd need to wire them into the speakers.

I couldn’t comment on the zealsound mixer as I’ve not used it personally, but if I were in your position I’d simply go for something tried and tested like a focusrite Scarlette solo for cheaper.

@@seanhersey9037 I’d ignore the functionality as it’s mostly all useless. The focusrite has great preamps which is the most important thing for voice recording. The Maono products don’t match up when it comes to audio quality.

​@@seanhersey9037 The 512 limelight is great and will pair well with the Scarlette solo. Denoise shouldn't be needed with the Scarlette as the preamps are powerful enough to boost your microphones signal without adding a lot of noise. There is also the 'air' feature which boosts yours mids and highs in your voice if you need that. Alternatively if you do experience a lot of noise, you could purchase something like a cloudlifter/ fethead to boost your signal which means you do not have to crank the gain up as much (meaning less noise and more volume)

The only thing I'm wondering if the E2 can do, is be able to also record phone calls? My podcast is usually myself and/or a guest in the studio. Sometimes the guest to be interviewed, will be on the phone and not in the studio Can the E2 add the phone call audio into the stream, or do I need some type of external recording device? Hey Doug - Were you able to test this? I am having trouble with this feature and been in contact with Maono. I am using a MacBook Pro and recording in Anchor. Anchor is only recording the mic jacks from the E2 and not any of the Bluetooth audio and even when I connect with the Aux and Output jacks with Loop Back on - nothing. Not sure if there is a setting on my computer or not but tired MacBook/Chrome/Anchor and PC/Edge/Anchor and still nothing. If you made the purchase and was able to BT the phone call let me know.

I tried with Bluetooth and with the podcasting cable plugged into the Aux & Live Output and it wouldn't work. @@badnbeardedcasey you should be able to link another interface into it like a Scarlette solo if you want more inputs and record through it. Just turn on the loop back feature (I think that’s the one) and everything going in to the e2 should be recordable on your computer

Technically you could run 5. (one XLR, one 1/4", two 3.5mm and Bluetooth), but you'd only volume control over four.

I'm disappointed on my maono e2 just arrived.my voice on mic when I sing on tiktok live it's late..like 30sec. I don't expect that.i really like the product it's beautiful and when you make your own video it's clear and nice sound. But on live streaming. I cant ask more for this price. The only thing that maybe will be better is if they had like an adapter power that can continuosly power it. I rather have device with separate power than all in one usb c because I use Desktop PC that use bigger power than ur small laptop so it can include unwanted electric noise with usb c.

My laptop can power it just fine with both ports connected, but it’s ridiculous that I have to use two when the previous maonocaster could be powered with just one and so can many other more expensive and cheaper units

@@ChrisWilmshurst because u only use it with laptop. With PC with higher wattage, with highend gpu etc, the electic noise will be leak in easily with only usb c like my bad experience with scarlet 2i2(its doing fine when I plug to laptop ofc). So its actually a good thing that they do it here so its more compatible with more device not only for tiny laptop.

@@AndyBaedal I use it with my gaming pc and I had zero noise issues with my Scarlette solo with either my pc or MacBook Pro. Your interference could be from many reasons but I have never suffered interference from any single usb interfaces. It seems you’ve had some bad luck in the past, maybe something on your pc is causing interference? Did you install your IO shield when you built it? Maono are the only brand who have done it this way and I’ve tested other interfaces with built in batteries which do not have this split power/connection design with zero issues on pc or Mac.

@@ChrisWilmshurst probably my house electrical grounding is not very good that causing static. But I m not the only one tho, many production house has this experience. That is why there is product like ifi idefender, jitterbug, etc to solve this problem. Maybe you’re so lucky to have place with clean electrical that many others around the globe might not

All due respect Chris but I don't have to be an engineer to hear this entire thing is distorted, rendering all of the audio tests basically useless.

Trust me it’s not a fake review! I butchered the last one and this one improves it a lot and if you watched the video you’ll realise I said there’s better out there. Also I do not get paid to make these reviews so why on earth would I make a fake review about a product?
