Probably mentioned already but I love making maps and would often make giant map walls. One of the best methods I use to quickly map areas is navigate the rivers. So much faster than walking and most horses and you still reveal most of the map. Plus, you tend to find villages since they are usually near the river.

A buried treasure is always in the center of a chunk, so if you're willing to do a little math, you can dig straight down to it. Once you're close to the marker on the treasure map, divide your approximate X and Z coordinates by 16, multiply 16 by whatever the whole number is (so ignore the decimals) and add 8 to that number. That's the X or Z coordinate of the chest. Quick example, if my map leads me to about 140, y , 57, I'll do 140/16=8.75, then 8x16+8=128+8=136. My treasure chest's X coordinate is 136. Same process, the Z coordinate will be 56. (Yes, I'm a math tutor who uses mc in any lesson I can with my students who also play.)

I did learn something new, thanks. I have a new thing for you to learn too! Prowl, when digging for a treasure chest, place your whole arrow directly on top of the X and as centered as possible. You want to cover the x. Then divide the x coordinate by 8. You want the total to have no remainder or the lowest remainder possible. Move a block if you need to. Then repeat for Z. This will put you DIRECTLY over the chest. Dig straight down.❤

I like your idea of sharing the Ocean Monument with BluJay. I did know about Maps marking Maps, but it isn't as individual as Banners marking Maps on Java can be. I would like to be able to mark a Map with "Skeleton Spawner", or like your Pillager Outpost & Ocean Monument markers, but where you don't need to remember what it is or guess (because it is in the middle of the Ocean) what it is (what if you marked something else that is underground but in the middle of the Ocean?). Buried Treasure can be Deep. It used to also get deleted by Caves I think (took me years to get the Achievement for digging up a Buried Treasure). And think about the Stoney Shores Buried Treasures, you have to break blocks for those. The Treasure is in the center of the Chunk. You should ALWAYS take the Chest, even if you don't think you need the odds and ends in it. Even (especially?) in Single Player.

Yes Prowl, I did. I learned how to “lock” a map. It’s a feature I was aware possibly existed in Bedrock. But I had no clue how to do. You’ve solved that for me now I know. I watch a bunch of Hermitcraft. I knew maps could be locked I saw that in a Pearl video. However the hermits are Java players and we all know that there are different mechanics between the two. The other map feature they show is labelling locations. Not marking as Bedrock does although I’ve seen that as well. But actually “named” locations. In their case I’m under the impression that it’s somehow done with banners. While it’s entirely possible it exists on Bedrock I don’t believe it is. I love using the maps. Especially the “Locator” maps. I play with my two Nephews on my realm. Silly boys claim they don’t like/want any maps. I’m guessing they’ve never even seen a locator map, nor any idea how they work. They know I like and have maps. Yet they can’t figure out how they can never sneak up on me. Simple really. They log on and a locator map goes in my off hand immediately. 😂 If someone knows how to “label/ name” maps on Bedrock maps I would forever be grateful. Thanks for another Bedrock video Prowl, keep up the great work!

@@edwardphillips8460 I mean the game only turned 15 this year, and I’m fairly sure the Java map mechanics were only added in the mid-late 2010’s. They’re slowly getting closer and closer to parity between the two versions, and I reckon map mechanics is probably near the top of their list now that things like banners on shields are a thing. The only thing I can think of off the top of my head that would be a higher priority parity-wise than maps is the combat system.

Just a correction. On Java you expand maps on the Cartography table using a single piece of paper. I've played for many years and I don't remember ever needing 8 pieces of paper to expand maps. Also on Java you can make markers on your map which can actually have the names on the map. You do this using a banner that you name in an anvil. Place the banner where you want the marker and click on it with the map. This instantly places a flag mark and name onto the map. Very useful for recording each others bases and important POIs.

My understanding (and I could be wrong) is that duplicate maps don't really increase game size as they just "reference" the original. It's only a new map when it is created. I have at least 3 bases with 3x3 map walls, chests and shulkers with duplicate maps, and notice no difference.

Totally forgot that I used to do this in 1.14 update. I had a 8x8 map inside my main hall with lvl 1 maps to show the world that I built around me. I would do a smaller 4x4 map on my other areas as well just to see how it all unfolds as I build around them. Another tip : You can actually create a 128x128 flat land covered with snow to create a plain white map to make creative builds such as an infinity room. (Can be little tricky on bedrock, but is possible). Tip 2: You can place the item frames on light blocks (glowstone, shroom lights, sea lanterns) to illuminate the area and also to hide the light source for cleaner builds

Java USED to be able to craft non-locator maps, and it was ported to PE/Bedrock. Then for some inexplicable reason they were removed from Java. Also, maps can be duplicated on both Bedrock and Java using a crafting table. Place the map you want to copy along with an unused map (either locator or non-locator will work on Bedrock) and you'll get a duplicate.

Hey Prowl! I used to turn my nose up at plain (non-locator) empty maps, because although they're cheap (saving iron and redstone in the early game when your supplies are sparse) they're pretty much useless for navigating. But a few years ago when I realized you could place maps in item frames to mark locations-the method you're demonstrating in this video-it suddenly made sense why plain empty maps are so worthwhile: Namely, when you copy a locator map to a plain map, it becomes a locator map without having to add a compass to it, so we Bedrock players can make infinitely many copies of a single map using just one compass, while the poor Java players need a separate compass for each and every copy! You didn't point that out-did you realize how much of an advantage Bedrock enjoys?
