For those who hate adding a flag under every map's properties (e.g. nojump), type "defaultmap" (in any line, I believe) and type the flag you want under it. Methink that this works in all versions of MAPINFO.

i enjoyed this type of level renaming better than your other video showcasing Doom Writer and WhackEd... also liked the whole ability to change skies and intermission texts.... i've struggled with that for a while now. props edit: my own twist // doom.fandom.com/wiki/Sky i didn't realize the thing about F_SKY1 being the base tile that the engine reconfigures into the actual SKY texture ingame.... alternatively, if you wanted to change the sky to a stock texture, you can use the script # OPEN { changesky(etc.etc.) } ... ugh... SO BOSS !

The source ports I was thinking of were ZDaemon and Odamex, although they may support the newer MAPINFO variants by now. (The old format is also supported by GZD and Zandronum, you probably already know this but just clarifying)

Music walkover triggers are definitely possible in ZDoom based ports (I’ve never used them, but should be easy enough to find through a quick google)

That's essentially correct. You can choose from the different endings here: EndPic = Displays the specified lump as an image. This method should be used instead of the next four. EndGame1 = Displays the credit picture used after Doom episode 1 and Heretic episodes 1 and 5 EndGame2 = Displays the picture used after Doom episode 2, or the credits screen for Doom 2 EndGameW = Displays the picture used after Heretic episode 2 EndGame4 = Displays the picture used after Doom and Heretic episode 4 EndGameC = Rolls the cast finale for Doom II EndGame3 = The horizontal scroller (right to left) after Doom episode 3 EndDemon = The vertical scroller (bottom to top) after Heretic episode 3 EndGameS = The conditional end game script for Strife

Hi, Doomkid. I'm planning to make a wad with new textures and when I did all the PP_START - PP_END stuff and then "Add to Patch Table" but I pressed "Create New (Empty)" instead of "Import from Base Resource Archive" because I didn't like the fact that when you do the Base Resource Archive thing it adds Doom2 textures to the list, while I want it to be a separate list with new textures only, just to avoid confusion (especially when I'm using Ultimate Doom Builder). Is it good or bad? My test wad worked fine BTW. Additional stupid question: FLATS do not need to add them to patch table or Texturex, right? PS: Thanks for your tutorial. I will make good use of your tips. For now, I'm just trying to learn some other basics such as adding new texs.

You're right, flats don't need to be added to either the patch table or texturex! I think the method you used of creating a new blank patch table will mess up in Vanilla and more "conservative" ports, but it should still work just fine in ZDoom-family ports. (I could be mistaken, I've never tried creating a new blank patch table before)

I believe so, but the formatting is a bit different. I've never used anything but the old MAPINFO format (idk why there are like 19 mapinfo formats now.. the old Hexen-based format as shown here was perfect, I thought)

SKY3 texture. I found a solution. You can set the map to 21 when creating a new map (doom builder) and then warp to map 21 when loading the map. It sets the sky texture to SKY3 (doom 2)

Every map in your wad before e1m8 will need “cluster 1”, and after e1m8, you’ll have “clusterdef 1” where you actually type the story and set a FLAT for a background and such.

Sorry for late response - In Slade, under preferences, try setting your "base resource archive" to doom2.wad. This should prevent that from happening.

Unfortunately not, the only ports that support the classic MAPINFO format are ZDoom based ports (GZDoom, Zandronum, Odamex etc). Some ports have variants like UMAPINFO, but sadly I don’t think PrBoom is one of them.

Hmm, that's strange - what are the dimensions of your sky texture? (for example 128 x 256 is a normal sized sky texture)

That's a great question, I don't think it's actually possible to have the story react to the player's name. If you're making something targeting GZDoom it may be possible however.

Check out the MAPINFO tutorial on ZDoom.org, I believe it’s called EXITPIC but I’m not sure. Unless you want the same graphic for the whole campaign, in that case just modify the graphic called “interpic” which you can find in Doom2.wad. Hope this helps

Import a 320x200 image into your wad, and rename it to TITLEPIC. Then right click and convert to Doom Gfx format. Hope this helps!
