I have been following traditional Japanese music for a long time, but this beautiful video deserves a special mention; a veritable jewel of interpretation with a high percentage of the best artists of Kyoto and Gion, in particular, among the Geiko and the Maiko but in particular to signal the presence among the musicians of artists that from Geiko are now owners of Okiya the houses (school of artistic formation) of the future Maiko and Geiko. A video that deserves to be viewed for the spectacular choreography and clothing of the participants with absolute religious attention.

maiko are the apprentice geisha. I'm pretty sure the maiko are the more elaborately dressed.
@Ivy999993 жыл бұрын
Correct, the Maiko are more brightly and elaborately dressed, the first year Maiko also have the long tassels on the left side of their head, as well as only having the bottom lip painted. There's two first years in this video, out of the Maiko (in the back row) at 0:10 , the ones on the ends are first years, you can see their long 'tassels' and at 1:00 you can see a second year + Maiko with the full lip compared to the first year next to her at 1:03 with only the bottom lip painted. :)

@@stoof4598 I don't understand anything... Can u pls explain are geisha, maiko and geiko different ranks of the dancers based on experience and merit?
@stoof45982 жыл бұрын
@@tazziiiee Geisha refers to the artsperson, they live in Okiya, boarding houses for the geisha. The maiko are especially dressed for their okaasama (boarding mother) to show them off like fancy medallions, but it also represents the clumsiness of the youth, to wear such beauty, could only show less experience. The Geiko are more simply dressed and are usually 20 years of age or more. In some Tokyo and other prefectures, they can be 17+ 18+ 19+ 20+ some cases 21+ or any age that they are worthy. Geisha usually left the profession when they had a better opportunity, they often came from broken homes and it is considered very taboo and inappropriate to ask them about questions of their personal life during a reservation. They are not exactly dancers, however traditional dance is kind of their thing, so they often include it in reservations. Reasonably, getting a reservation with a geisha house is extremely difficult and can be expensive. That is according to other people, if anyone actually knew the truth about how hard they work and how much their services effect and cost them and their lives, they would not complain about the expenses. Geisha participate in the following: -All seasonal matsuri (festivals) -All geisha events including birthdays -Reservations for Corporate members and regular people -Food and Drink, (they drink with clients but only after the client drinks first.) -New years thanks (Thanking their boarding mothers and senior geiko for their guidings.

The maikos hair is also in a wareshinobu style for the first two years, then it moves to ofuku where you no longer see the dangling portion of the hanakanzashi or the bridge that was featured on the junior. Sr. Maiko wear a single large flower or kanzashi and have both lips painted fully. Also, their obi is tied slightly differently than the junior maiko. The Geiko wear the shimada hairstyle which is a wig in modern times and have a more "womanly"look with a white collar.

This dance of Maple Dance is the whole member's dance of Maikos and Geikos of the Gion Higashi district, out of the Gion Kobu. This dance is arranged according to the dancing style of the Hujima Ryu Dancing School, which is one of the favorite Kabuki style dances. Kikuyu(Yukina) who is a Geiko of the Miyagawacho district doesn't have any relationship with the Kion Higashi district, you know. So, no Yukina could be seen in this group of Gion Odori Maple Dance.

you can tell maiko and geisha apart by looking at their kimono: maiko have the long sleves, the fancy colors, wearing showy hair ornaments and the long dangling obi. their inner collar is something with red, here the geisha are the ones in black kimono, white collar, bix shaped obi and the "plain" hairstyle but I was really wonderin that the folded fan is swireld around a finger... I always thought, that was a speciality of "memoirs of a geisha" and would never be practiced like that...
