I'm from the UK 🇬🇧 and I must admit that to see the way that the demolition work was done is fantastic. The planing & everything to get it through to the finished item was just maraculous. Well done to all the people involved who made an amazing salvation of a fantastic landmark for people to still use & not for it to be completely forgotten by being just bulldozed & a new building 🏢 being put in its place

Im from Scarborough/ Toronto but moved to Scotland when i was 20 so ive been in the gardens more than a few times but i can honestly say this broke my heart seeing a "castle" getting brought to its knees😢 but its better than being knocked down altogether

I will always remember going to Maple leaf gardens to watch the Leafs I seen so many great hockey games in there I took a trip to Toronto during the demolition I must admit I had a tear in my eye and one of the construction actually gave me a blue brick from the Maple Leafs dressing room and it is actually buried with my Dad my dad used to referee some Toronto Marlies OHL Hockey Games in Maple Leaf Gardens

Priestly did a great job here. I had the pleasure of utilizing their services on one of my jobs and they were very professional. Kudos to Ryerson too on a great athletic centre and a nice rink that preserves the old roof and somewhat feel of the old barn.

None of the classic hockey arenas are gone now, and I believe Madison Square Garden from the 60's is the oldest.

Awesome venue. Went to many events there including Sunday afternoon Marlie games

Watching this in 2021 and still very hard to see. Going there now just doesn’t feel the same as it used to. Only true hockey fans will truly understand. Nothing original exists here now except the 4 exterior walls and the metal beams holding up the roof. Essentially, it was MLSE themselves who called for this fate, as they refused to sell to anyone who would use MLG as a competing venue to the ACC (now Scotiabank Area). In other words, they wanted it to undergo adaptive reuse.

This is so hard to watch. Its like watching a family member pass on right in front of your eyes, and I'm not even a Leafs fan.

The rink of Ryerson looks great, as does the indoor field, and basketball court.

Kinda sad to see a bit of history taken apart, but that's life, out with the old, in with the new. At least it wasn't turned into a bank..... Thanks for the video.

Way to go guys! Now the only thing original about this historic monument is the 4 outside walls that keep it standing, that's it! When you took the project to this degree, it's not a true restoration, rather, it's an adaptive reuse. What a shame!

Absolutely horrific and shameful what was done to this building. I once wanted to visit this landmark now I couldn't care less if it was demolished. I would just as soon see it put out of its misery than leave it like this.
@Supesfan8810 жыл бұрын
It still pisses me off that they (MLSE) let the Gardens turn into a damn grocery store.
@jlelliotton9 жыл бұрын
+Supesfan88 Better than having it torn down. The only other offer was to turn it into a Home Depot. As Loblaws they have preserved a lot of the history and there is still an arena up high for the use of Ryerson University.
@jimbodiced59795 жыл бұрын
It's still used for hockey upstairs, so it's really not that bad when it's a multipurpose facility that made sure to utilize the very thing that the building was always intended for. They preserved plenty, maintained the entire roof & exterior, while also giving it a snazzy vintage styled marquee. Nothing lasts forever, but this was a great way to keep the building relevant in multiple ways. The only people who would let this majorly successful rejuvenation of a historical landmark piss them off is those who are against the notion of any and all progress.

i"m from montreal i just love what they did to maple leaf gardens .giving it a second life seeing what they did with what they did with the forum i wanna cry im disgusted and angry .not 1 memorabilia or keepsake left in that iconic building . maybe just a few seats it turned into shit. its saddening what they turned this iconic landmark into a 22 cinema broke through the walls ripped out the banners got rid of the iconic forum score board sick and saddening what $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ can replace forum cannot be replaced !!!!! remembered but never replaced shame on the city administration the same administration we kick our tax dollar to and they couldn"t find a better solution to preserving this iconic landmark ? SHAME !!!!! i would have had thousands of ideas turned it into a museum a hall of fame for our beloved hockey team or simply 2500 seat arena for our junior team montreal juniors now in blainville rocket richard built this house and it should have been better taken care of SHAME !!!! SHAME !!!! SHAME !!!! SHAME !!!! kudos on city of toronto for better conserving this landmark cause nobody in this day and age will ever come upon another building like this
