Thank you, Marnie. My grandmother learned this when Scott Joplin published it; it has been a family tune ever since, long before Joplin came back into fashion with 'The Entertainer'. She played as a teenager during the 1910's as a silent film pianist.

That is so neat, playing for silent films! Thank you for sharing!

@BrooklynClassical excellent playing Marnie, I am humbly speaking a self taught pianist from the age of 15yrs, iam 53yrs now, and o love playing Scott Joplin rags like the entertainer, and Maple leaf 🍁 rag, also I want to thank you bc a while ago I saw you on you tube playing Mozart k331 1st movement theme and 6 variations, after I saw you I got hold of the sheet music this was a couple of months ago, and I can now play the 1st movement theme and 6 variations and rondo alla turca, and this gave me confidence to now play the k332 Mozart 1st movement and also 2nd and 3rd movement, of the k332, the 2nd and 3rd was a bit patchy but I am humbly speaking pleased with all my progress and even proud of myself what I have accomplished, considering I am self taught, these sonatas are now part of my repertoire, along with my Beethoven moonlight sonata and sonata pathetique, thought I will mention this to let you know all your videos are most appreciated, music and being able to play the piano is a wonderfull God given gift to have, greetings from wales uk 😃

Thank you so much Marnie. It's good to hear this played as Joplin wrote it--as a semi-classical piece in rag time. Every note rings true. Perfectly played in all aspects.

Marnie plays it very well and at the proper pace and dynamics. BRAVO! When “The Sting” came out in 1973, I purchased Joplin’s entire works for piano. Soon thereafter, I could sit down for several hours and play 10 rags from memory and at a professional level. I entered several Joplin performance festivals in Sedalia, MO. Playing time is great fun and entertaining for others. 🎹
