Over the past week, Dad and I were able to get my new maple syrup evaporator set up in the Sugar Chateau. And not a minute to soon, because the sap is starting to flow!

The new barn looks great, as does the evaporator. Very exciting developments at the farm.

Love the barn and the video. I am also in SW Ohio. What is the name of the construction company? I thought you said "LNK construction" but could not find them listed. Also are you selling your syrup? Where do you sell it?

Hey thanks for watching! If you look up “LK Construction” you’ll find them. They are based out of Greensburg, IN. If you use them for a project, drop my name, Steven Cleary! At this point, I don’t have any plans to retail my syrup.

So my arch is almost exactly like yours. I posted a picture on a fb group of my arch and they said they worry about the back of my pan and back of my warming pan getting scorched. Did you run into this issue? Also did you firebrick the back wall that is behind your boiling pan and your warming pan?
@ChanyataFarm
@ChanyataFarm Жыл бұрын
We have not really had much of an issue with this. A small amount on the warming pan, but nothing that effects of syrup. I am always sure that I have water ready to add to my warming pan once it goes empty though so it never sits and scorches though

@@ChanyataFarm awesome that’s good to know. Our arch is 1/4 steel lol. I don’t think I’ll have an issue either then. Should be tapping in the next week or 2 here. Goodluck this season! Can’t wait for more of your content

Love this mini boiler! Can't wait to see how much u get in total this year. We just tapped our 1st 2 maples ever. Got a dozen more we could do but 4 this year we will do maybe 3 or 4 more because of boiling it down for us newbies will b a trial and fun time. Hope that dame virus doesn't put a damper on all of us! May I ask if u plan to set up a mini pancake breakfast place? Yr barn certainly is large enough!

@@ChanyataFarm, didn't prepare ahead enough 4 how many containers to store sap b4 boiling. Had some, now trying to find what ever we have that is good safe and can b kept cool outside with covers. Will the hole heal itself? And how long should we collect sap?
@ChanyataFarm
@ChanyataFarm 4 жыл бұрын
The tree should heal itself just fine once you remove the tap. I keep my taps in until the sap stops all together. When the trees are ready to bud, the sap stops.

You guys should be very excited to have such a beautiful building and evaporator. Mine is a little more "rustic" but it gets the job done. I also wanted to do a video today cooking off syrup. But it is going to rain and my evaporator is outside, not under roof. So it'll have to wait a day or so...

What did you make the boiler out of? A filing cabinet? I’m looking at doing one of these in the near future!

Hey! Really nice setup! I've been doing syrup for the last 2 years, and im looking to do it on a bit of a bigger scale this year. I really like that evaporator. Who makes it? and what model? I've been looking around, and unfortunately there aren't many options locally for me here in southern Ontario.

What gauge of steel did you use as the wall for the arch? Me and my dad are planning on making one. Any advice is much appreciated. Also what brand is your pan? I’m planning on doing one similar to yours! I love the looks of yours

I will have to dig back through my emails and look for some of this info. Both the arch and the pan were fab’d by a local welder near me who sells syrup arches on the side. I’m sure I have that info somewhere though to share with you

@@ChanyataFarm that’s really cool! I’m located in western NC and there isn’t anyone around that I know of that makes maple syrup so it’s hard not having dealers around me. I wouldn’t be supposed to driving to pick one up though. Yeah if you come across Ed that info I would love to have it. I appreciate the reply

Hello, very excited to see your evaporator in action. I have some questions about your plans. A season ago you had a steam pan and now you jumped to a 2x4. Apparently you got the bug. Your economics is your business. I’m wondering how many taps you had last year compared to this year in order to fill the needs of that bigger evaporator? I ran just shy of 50 taps last year with my 20x38 homemade flat pan and a DIY RO. I keep considering going to a 2 x 3 or 2x4 but trying to figure out how many more taps it would take. Sorry for the lengthy question and statement. I am in SW Michigan and we have not tapped yet. Thanks

I got about 60 gallons of sap from 49 taps 2 days ago, we boiled of 65 gallons in about 6.5 hours on this setup yesterday m, including about an hour in the finishing pot. I hope to have a video out of the evaporator in use soon, it’s been hectic with the sap running here in southwest Ohio! Last year was 15 taps.
@ChanyataFarm
@ChanyataFarm 4 жыл бұрын
This 2x4 Pan is supporting my needs no problem so far. I’m guessing, but I think I could support another 25 taps pretty easily, bringing me to around 75. With RO, I could see it handling even more

@Tonnsfabrication 4 жыл бұрын
I run twin 2x4 divided pans on an 8 foot evaporator. My take on it is I'd much rather have a smaller syrup pan, 4 foot is just too large. If it's all you can do I get it but if you can go a tad longer and add another pan to boil in and feed a smaller syrup pan it would work much better.

What a awesome setup! What is the white stuff around the edges that you put your stainless steel pan on and your preheater? Looks like it helps seal the heat and smoke from escaping. A lot of engineering you put into making this
