I mean the whole reason she became so OP in the first place was Luck, but it was MOSTLY Unconventional Play Style, Thinking, & Wisdom. All of this keeps leading to her Outside The Box Thinking with a System that rewards Exploration & Questing. In addition to First Time Boss Kills. Like killing the Hydra by gaining Max Poison Resist and EATING it. Not to mention not realizing "Hey Bosses aren't meant for fighting alone, ESPECIALLY as an under equipped newbie" But if NOT for her good friend Sally's Tactical MMORPG Experience as a S Tier Player....Maple would NEVER have made it so far in this Competition. She simply doesn't have the mind for Group Tactics. Which is why this show is so AMAZING: As OP is Maple is, she's NOT a Mary Sue. She's HAS to rely on others, which then gives EACH Team Mate their time to shine.

That was a major reason, but another reason was that they didn't want to discourage players with the message, "If you're too good at the game, we'll arbitrarily strip you of your hard-earned success." So they put in patches so that people couldn't _moe_ their way into a build like Maple's again and made some soft nerfs to her skills and introduced a few balancing mechanics, but mostly let her keep her stupid-broken-OP build. And it just kept getting more OP as she found little hidden secrets because she explored for fun and excitement because she's genuinely interested in the game while a lot of other people who are used to playing MMOs just go to the quest givers and are all "Skip... skip... skip... just give me the reward already." Also, the kind of hyper-specific build it would really take to practically beat Maple's build would probably suck at the rest of the game so that's probably an achievement in and of itself. I wouldn't be surprised if they coded an actual hidden achievement into the game... Cut down Maple.

I found this series hilarious. Little Maple is the sweetest, best-natured young girl you could imagine, but by equal parts good luck and instinct, she manages to build her character into a game-breaking monster. Then, when she wins she just cheers, says that was fun and doesn't gloat at all. Nobody in the series is able to maintain a grudge against her because she's so sweet, friendly, good-natured and whatever the exact opposite is of "smug."

She's literally allowed to have an OP build nobody else is allowed to get in a PVP heavy game. It's not her fault she's cheating in this scenario, its the fault of the devs, but nonetheless players would be right to be upset. There is zero point in playing a PVP game if other people are going to always win vs you because they're allowed to do shit you're not allowed to do even if you were the exact same class and build. If the game was PVE only I'd say "sure, let people do all their weird shit" but PVP games have at least SOME expectation of balance and fairness and letting some players mow through other players like its Dynasty Warriors would kill the game faster than New World IRL killed itself.

His unconventional strat only works thanks to his high skill and deep game knowledge and both he and other pro players understand that the weakness of the build is poor scaling and that eventually at high levels he will lose his advantage. It's justifies and explains basically everything each character is able to do within the lore of the world. King's Avatar is a believable story both withing MMOs and within how gamers behave. On the other hand Bofuri is just a highly entertaining but completely nonsensical power fantasy moe anime that breaks its own rules and completely ignores how actual MMOs work and how gamers behave. The reality is that Bofuri is just another OP MC isekai. It's just a cute and entertaining one.

i mean, Chrome and Iz are definitely just playing normal meta builds. Chrome is just a blood death knight and Iz is an artificer. its just maple tree gives her all their gold. the Samurai is also normal. 1. SAO was written 10+ years earlier than this 2. Kirito and some of the frontier players still enjoy the game even if they might die because of it, to a point that they are just willing to take over Ainclad once more when it's added back to ALO. 3. Mid layer players exists. They neither go to the frontier to try beating the whole game nor stay at first layer to wait until the whole event is over. They basically enjoy their staying in the world casually.

The death system was not in ALO, but the new Ainclad is 10x more difficult than the old one, so it is still for hardcore gamers only. And of course mid layer players do exist. Even in the anime Kirito temporarily joined a mid layer guild. And out of all side characters, Silica is definitely a mid layer players during the SAO event, and it's not until new ALO that she started playing high level contents with the Kirito group.

Fun fact: Stout Guardian is supposed to be Great Shielder exclusive. Since Payne has it, I came up with 2 different reasons why: First, it might have been available for purchase via gold medal after the second event. Second, Payne is a Great Shielder by class but fundamentally changed his entire build to get away from the tank nature of the Great Shielder, while allowing him to pick up useful skills from the class.

What makes this Anime so AMAZING is that while Maple is AMAZINGLY OP, she's NOT a Mary Sue. She has LIMITS. She relies on her friends and team mates to help her win BIG PvP Battles. @@shiraorithespidergod797 The point being made is that no matter how strong Maple herself is, there are still things that she *can't* do (for instance, one of her biggest weaknesses is her lack of mobility, which is why she tends to ride around on her turtle more often than not, as her turtle has better mobility than Maple herself does), and she can still be overwhelmed by a strong enough opponent or team if she doesn't have help of her own. She's OP, yes, but she's not unstoppable. She can still be beaten, as shown by the fact that Payne by himself was pushing Maple so hard that she had to resort to Atrocity in order to come out on top against him, and IIRC, Atrocity has a really long "cooldown" timer, so it's not something Maple can just spam at will. Atrocity is basically an "Ace in the Hole" in much the same way that Machine God is, it's an extremely powerful ability, but it comes with either a very long cooldown or a big downside to compensate and ensure that Maple can't just "spam" those abilities in order to just steamroll everyone and everything. The fact that Payne by himself was able to force Maple to resort to Atrocity by itself would be something I'd consider a sort of "half-victory" for him, as he did better against Maple than anyone else up to that point has (including Mii). He was one of the few people to actually inflict real significant damage to Maple, while someone like Mii just had all of her attacks do nothing at all to Maple, and Mii is likely pretty close to Payne in terms of strength (she may not be as strong as the stronger members of Payne's guild, but she's still no slouch either).

If she goes full pvp she would be broken but now but I am glad she doesn't do that.

@@blackz3823 get creative with your game instead. if hes got a big shield and heavy plate then he isnt moving fast at all. throw some traps his way. oh look you are crossing a plains. be a shame if a lightning storm hit. your in a dungeon and the enemy breaths poison on you. you can also have a BBG cast heat metal on his shield/armor/weapon and if he wants to hold onto it and keep his AC high then he will take dmg each turn. all im saying is AC isnt everything in D&D.

This part of the show always shocked me. When Maple learned "Stout Guardian," she explained it to Sally as a "Great Shielder" exclusive skill. However, great shielders are supposed to wield shield and short sword. We never see Payne with a shield or a short sword. (Unless they changed the translation from Japanese to English and I wouldn't have seen that.)

I love this fight cause Maple totally knocked them all down from their high horse. Payne and his whole guild are all overconfident and cocky fuckers. They went in believing there was no chance they would lose. Even though they knew Maple's track record and that she is a wild card, they still didn't have a backup strategy or an escape plan just in case things didn't go their way. Payne had an ace up his sleeve but Maple had 2 up hers. I hate cocky characters, even more so when they are strong and skilled. Its always satisfying to see those people either destroyed or brought down by those they once looked down on.

Specially since Payne, who is long blade wielder, just prove he could hack into skill of other role. He uses Stout Guardian. That skill is a great shield exclusive. Payne couldn't use that in his actual role without hacking. Payne is skilled but also a cheater. And since one of the devs obviously cheer for him, they expressed the idea that a strong Maple is not so bad after all. Otherwise players could begin to question the reasons how Payne is constantly unbeatable.

Machine God has a big downside, besides the once a day activation, It completely destroys all equiped armor and the value of said equipment is how powerful it becomes. Oddly enough Maple has the perfect armor set to abuse said skill, her armor set auto fixes itself upon destruction and gets better. And Atrocity does have a skill that counters it, that Maple gets her hands on, said skill disables all "evil/dark" skills in its area of effect.
