Cubes\Potential destroyed this games community, made it into a contest where as before it was all about chilling out and leveling together. The community is what I miss the game was almost secondary.

Really late reply, but an old player here--played launch through mid 2007... Contest was there practically from day one. You'd get in massive KS fights and people would justify being selfish assholes because they'd move up in the rankings... "ppl 2 pass" That's not to say community and having fun/chilling was never a thing (it certainly was strong at first and kept fading more and more), but the contest was definitely very early on too.

Big bang wasn't when the game went bad, actually it was crazy popular back then. The community didn't plummet until Legends when people realized you needed gear priced to pierce the heavens to kill Cygnus, only to find out she was rigged the while time to be unkillable. The cess pool age was during Tempest and Unleashed. Those two updates killed the game. Luckily Reboot saved Maple from the brink of death and it's getting better. Doubt it will ever be as big as it once was until they start doing community content again.

Reziik She was broken. You couldn't kill her back then. There's videos where people would kill her and the game would kick them from the servers because she wasn't supposed to be killed lol. And then they added in the mechanic where you had to kill her 30 times or w/e the stupidly crazy number was in the FINAL 10 MINUTES ONLY (any kills before that wouldn't count or something) or you fail. It was ridiculous. That's why it took people, I think, two years? before they allowed her to be beaten. Was really stupid.

It was when they introduced cubes that ruined the game. Big Bang was a welcome change to the game that pretty much everyone wanted.

Post big bang was not the end of maplestory in my opinion. Pre big bang was great don’t get me wrong but i still enjoyed this game more than any other until shortly after kaiser was released. The game has changed to where you basically play it all solo. There’s nearly no more social interaction which is what made the game so much fun.

that's why reboot is the only server worth playing, since it forces interaction, requiring you to fight end game bosses in order to get their gear

I hate what big bang made to maple, but i still miss what maple was in 2010-2013. After 2013 all old skills removed, maps, items, damage and revamping everything..They had too many characters, they should have stopped to resistance. But best memory in 2011 was LHC but ofc they nerfed that place.

I think I left at around September 2011, but I thought I saw Mercedes earlier than that. It was because of the MTS hack. People lost millions and billions due to nexon's weak security leak to anyone that did a transaction with it. The compensation? 25k nx, that's it. I left.

The power balance really went out after Duel Blade. But I still love Kaiser, Angelic Buster, Demon Slayer, Kanna and some new area designs like Abyss and Monster Park. The rest were total garbage. Battlemage, Phantom, Jett, Luminous. The leads couldnt keep up with their new classes. Stronger classes need more enemies, stat redesign, travel redesign, gameplay design. Its sad to see this game implode its cute charm to the max.

Unleashed killed Maple tbh.Literally by a small amount of funding, anyone during tempest could've gone to 999k range. it was good, slow classes needed some revamps back there, yeah, but it was all around great time.Then Unleashed came around and ruined the fuck out of the game with such a power creep. 999k range to 50m. What were they thinking?

seriously what killed MS for me is the new classes actually. MS-pre big bang was when classes actually still retain their sense of individuality. Class revamps after bigbang are fine, since they fixed imbalances and add new functionalities, but all the new "unique" classes are simply carbon copies of the original. Every class getting a flash jump, that's utter bs. Nexon pretty much killed their classic for running out of ideas.

Pvp and friend story gotten me to leave maplestory. Now there just milking new game modes every few month that doesn’t add anything to the game
