i agree with the problem due to the heat emitted by the engine and hitting the knees unless you live in an environment like me. 2 months a year warm remained cold, Following the dew of the tachograph (depending on the age of the engine), I assume that a thin rubber seal prepared..you can solve the problem for little money, in terms of uncomfortable sitting position, I am 58 years old drove 1274 km in one day (Romania-Transfagarasan, all Hungary and part of Slovenia) with my girl friend on the back seat?! ;)) I agree with the brakes on the old model, especially if they are not the original Brembo plates ...

They do get hot and boil your ball in summer, the R/S was the worse of them , mine is a plain bike and better with heat, I did some baffling under the tank a put some insulation to keep the heat from boiling the fuel causing vaporisation and it comes to a halt until you open the tank cap letting out the gasses. The clocks have little vent and it needs enlarging. I am little and have short little legs I shortened the rear spring but that makes it more trouble getting in the stand. You never mentioned the SMOKING when started off the side stand, it clear in a mile but it has always done it since the very first time new, when I bought it in 1984. The oil goes down the guides into the pipes and burns in there. Batteries come to a sudden death and I have been stranded by them. It appears the heat coming past it from the engine is the cause.

I have completely resolved the heat issues with a self adhesive heat blanket from a 'speed shop' and spent the day cutting and installing, also insulated the fule rail and return with pipe insulation from the hardware store, long ride today with 0 heat issue

Hi, the work to resolve the heat issue ispretty easy, remove the right side lower faring and completly cover the area with the self adheasive heat insulation, i cut cardboard templates beingcareful to not block the air flow and fan for the raidator, covered the front of the airbox and the bottom of the gas tank and frame, so no heat can transfere to the tank, under the right side lower fainring I put the pipe insulation on thefule return line (it runs up besides the raidator) used some small zip ties to secure it, and did the fule rail to by cutting some notches where the ingectors are and also did the bottom of the black filler between the the left side of the gas tank and the upper faring@@vulcanbcn

The Peugeot engine was used for testing on the first prototypes only. The actual engine is 100% BMW.

I recently bought an '84 model and have already put 1500 miles on it. Just found your channel so I'll have a watch of your restoration vdeos. Looks like you're in the Manchester area like me. I agree with your summary of the K100RS bad points except for the brakes which I think are well up to stopping the bike from speed, very reassuring. The front discs tend to warp though and are expensive to replace. I previously had a K75S which has a smoother engine and uses less fuel. You've got the lowered seat which may be the reason that the footpegs feel high. The standard seat is about 5 cms higher. I love the K100's muscular power and presence on fast roads, and the innovative '80s design. Check out the Sinclair C5 and the British Rail Advanced Passenger Train which were contemporaries, for the styling cues. It is surprising that the K100RS hasn't become a collectible classic when you consider its place in the history of motorcycle development, and of BMW in particular. BMW's just weren't cool back in the 70s and 80s when the demographic of UK bikers was a lot younger, so I guess most people who bought one new are now either dead or too old to ride.

ok.. Here is a fix for the moisture getting inside the cluster. Find the lowest point of the plastic and drill a tiny hole. This will allow it to vent and dry out. Being that it will be at the lowest point, any moisture that does get in will drain out and also dry. As for the brakes.. Get EBC - FA18HH and that bike will stop on a dime and give you change!!! Engine heat.. I have nothing for that.. Sorry.. Pegs either.. :(

Strange marketing strategy :-) I wonder if all the TFT screens, electronic suspensions, electronic aids etc will still be working in 35 years time? Rev counter on my old Honda has always suffered from condensation too, Oddly usually 'clears' after a couple of hours (again a known problem on the model - "They all do that Sir!" :-)

I love the brakes. My brother purchase a much newer BMW. The electronics on the new bike along with the raw power is scary but the braking on the new bikes is just terrifying. The modern bikes actually are a common cause of accidents, they stop too quickly. I am 55 and am accustom to older motor designs in every way. I would probably kill myself of these modern bikes. Great review but I see nothing but love for these bikes. If I were to state one and I'm use to it now but at first the blinkers and reset switches were troubling I was hitting the horn for the first week or two.

I ride exactly the same bike as yours (same color aswell) and agree with you on every flaw you mentioned. I would also add the annoying vibrations on the pegs at mid revs... Rear brake was a little wimpy even in the 80´s... Enjoyed the vid!

Describing the engine as a flat four isn't right. It's an inline four which has been laid on it's side.
