Mitch did his job PERFECTLY, which was to remain in the background. People don't appreciate Kirstin as much as they should because she's almost always in this role. The better the background does, the less you notice them. (You notice it because you're a singer.). The great innovation of Pentatonix is they don't seem beset by the huge egos of other groups. They have no trouble letting members "shine" on one song or another. They are each successful soloists in their own right but together they are awesome.

Posting this comment before the video starts! I saw this pop up 15min ago and immediately got excited hoping performance 12 will be in a matter of days! No offense to the 11th performance but after "Let's Get It On", 12 is the ultimate finally for an AMAZING "Origin Story"! Love you guys!

Thank you! I just KNEW that you would pick up on how marvellous Mitch was in that song! He was fabulous! And his acting in it too! I was equally surprised that no one mentioned it! His contributions were so well placed and seamless! This is my favourite mashup of theirs! Notwithstanding how many they’ve done to date, They are so clever with this! And as you say, it’s just one song! This is how they trademark their mashups, it is just 1 song - always. New Rules/Are You That Somebody and Shape of You/Despacito Are neck and neck, but Daft Punk is probably their best. I still like this one first though. 🤗 Btw: What took you Soooo Long to do this one?!!!! I’ve been waiting for AGES! Hahahahaha! The 12th performance, Dog Days are Over, is the last one that counts for the competition and many people's favorites. The last two performances aired in the finale and were not used to determine the champion.

I love both them Scott and Kirstin in thus one! Is one of my favorites of the sing off. Kevin and Avi are great but they give them much of the best "high notes" All of them always do what they need to do! And in this case Mitch is in the background doing a great job, as much as Kirstin is doing in a lot of songs when Mitch is shining.

The next performance is the performance that the nation votes immediately after , and the winner is decided at that time. In the next episode there are two performances. There's performance number 12 and number 13. When every group was done with number 12 then America voted. All things done after that performance we're not voted on. So if a group blew number 13, or did great for that matter on the 13th performance, it didn't affect them. So number 12 is the one to watch because it is the money maker performance. Most of us came back and watch The Sing-Off after Pentatonix was already famous and we spent this entire series saying "What about Mitch!?" We already knew what he's capable of doing, and we saw him doing noteworthy things in this series but he was never ever really praised for his role in the whole thing. So I definitely hear where you're coming from. I was really excited to see you done a Pentatonix reaction. Thank you!

Wow - you made us wait for this one. As you said in an earlier reaction, one of the things that makes PTX great is that they don't each have to be out in front on every song, but can still shine from the background. It is unfortunate that Mitch didn't get any recognition, but think about how many times the judges commented on everyone except for Kirstie when her background vocals were amazing. I think it's just a sign that they blended so well.

I absolutely love this band! I first fell in love with them when I saw their video singing Hallelujah, if you haven't seen it you've got to see it, it's great! They did a wonderful job on this song and I agree with MA, the judges didn't hear all of them as a whole and only praised the two, they are not the "meat and potatoes" of this band, all of them are. shame on judges, who can't hear, learn to judge.

Donna Johnson I think that you need to watch all of the Sing Off performances (if you haven’t already), and then you’ll understand where Shawn is coming from when he says that Kevin and Avi are the meat and potatoes of PTX. It makes perfect sense. He’d said it in his commentary before. However, Mitch was DEFINITELY the Gravy in that song, because he was everywhere and so fluid too! 😉

This was a really good mash up but I just can't wait for your reaction to performance 12. In my opinion it is their best performance on the show and as soon as it is done you can just sense that everyone else in the room knew PTX was going to win. We don't hear all of the judges' comments. They're edited. We can tell, because sometimes in the opening discussion before the night's performance, they use clips of judges' remarks that we didn't see previously.

It's made to look like a singing competition, but it's really a reality show. The story and drama are what matter and the show is heavily edited to fit the script.

I’d often thought that with some of the ‘candid camera’ stories! It was patently obvious during the OMG clip, it looked forced. I’d read years later that they weren’t allowed to change the choice of song and were grudgingly allowed to change some of the lyrics!

I agree with you about the lack of commentary about Mitch, but keep in mind, we aren’t seeing all their commentary. This is all heavily edited for the Tv show and the producers probably felt that the viewing audience would only want to hear about the leads. And there are also obviously time constraints on how much of the judge’s critiques they put in the aired version. All of those judges are very experienced musicians and I trust that they appreciated Mitch’s background vocals. 😉 This is the big drawback to reality television, heavy handed editing.

Nicole Curren, I watched the show back when they were on and the performances and the judges comments were live. The show was filmed in LA and timed for east coast with voting afterward just like The Voice and other shows.

I was watching this during the original broadcast, and this mashup was definitely better than the competition, who all tended to arrange their mashups by having a chunk of one song, then a chunk of the other, then alternating them, instead of picking individual lines from each to make a story like PTX did. It’s not perfect-Scott’s energy isn’t as high as it should be, and Kirstin was really off-key in that second verse-but it was still fun to watch. I have it and most of the other TSO songs of theirs on my iTunes, but I tend to skip this and the Britney medley to get to the other songs.

My favorite performances of Pentatonix was numbers 5, 10, and 12. But in 2013, they appeared as a guest on Home Free's season finale, and their performance there was every bit as good as those 3 performances!! So if you haven't reacted to that, after Pentatonix's finale, you should. And no, nothing on The Sing-Off was as good as Performance #10, the Marvin Gaye cover.

There wasn't really any earlier commentary for Mitch up to 11th performance. Not on his singing. Just maybe 2 compliments from Ben: 1 on Love Lock Down (the violin) and the other on Let's get it own ( the Wa-Wa at the start). The judges missed his earlier solo parts in ET and Video Killed T-R-S.

rugr82day I seem to remember a comment about the descending violin (what song was that?), and that he had a great voice (ying to Scott’s yang) in their second song that Ben didn’t like. I think that he got more acknowledgment given that he never once sang a lead song on that show really. I guess it is what it is, it doesn’t REALLY matter, but I do feel that Mitch should have received acknowledgment of his role in this song. He was an integral part of their success here. I love this mashup, my favourite of theirs!

Carôle Ceres, the descending violin was in Love Lock Down. It was just that he had a few solo parts that weren't acknowledge because they were not the lead. The two songs I mentioned above and also the Brittney melody. It would have been great if they had broadcasted their audition song of Telephone the way shows like The Voice and AGT show the auditions because them America could have seen him hit that amazing high note. Still it worked out in the end because he was like a secret weapon to help secured their win. Plus a lot of this is us knowing what a great singer he is and now looking back on these old shows with that current knowledge. I remember an interview with the Trio when asked about how they felt when they won and Kirstie said she was crying and thinking "now the world can see what a great singer Mitch is." and Scott was nodding his agreement. When I saw that I thought that those of us that claim to be Mitch fans have to get in line behind Scott and Kirstie.

All throughout the sing off performances, they did not acknowledge each contribution which is a shame, especially in the beginning, the focus was on the leads and harmonies and then later it was more recognition of Kevin and Avi. Outside of Love Lockdown, Dog Days are Over just put them into another sphere at that time in their careers.
