These videos are helping me study for my qualifying exams (don't tell my committee!), so thanks! If you did a video on Lugones's "Toward a Decolonial Feminism" I would be eternally in your debt.

David, I love your material. Firstly, it provides me with a concise summary of source material I don't actively seek but then subsequently enjoy. I am a bit of a passive SJW, but my focus is elsewhere. To be fair, you've dragged me down some rabbit holes-in a good way but distracting me from my other foci. Secondly, it expands my perspective of the world. In a way, it's choir preaching, except I didn't already know the song. And now I do. I loved your diversions and digressions. In a structured world, these might have been footnotes or endnotes tagged to the end, but as-is, they show your personality. Keep it up, and all the best.

I had the honor if taking Critical Race Theory with Professor Lugones the year before she passed away, she was one of my favorite teachers I've had. She told us once that when she first began her academic career, she was shy about speaking, but once she found her voice she never wanted to shut up. It's meaningful to me that her voice is still being heard after her passing.

Dear T&P, Engaging discussion, my dear conversationalist. My girly, music loving, erotic-positive, menstrual worshipping, scientific, radical Femina sapiens propounding (ie women are a separate free standing species) , feminist-Marxist “sensuous -comprehension” says .... it’s perhaps imprudent to confuse: (1) the patriarchal ideology of heteronormativity (ie the claim that romanticism and eroticism are defined as energies and bonds flowing between different physiological sex types) with (2) a more explicit and obviously fallacious doctrine that purported sex and gendered schemes are inherently binary or dimorphic. Plus, may I suggest that what you correctly identify as the “Male neurotic urgency” to systematise and categorise, an almost primal psychical force flowing from the European Renaissance, the 17/18 century Enlightenment, and from techniques of masculine control and industrialising, and broad patriarchal capitalist world views and world governance ..... this shouldn’t be used as an invitation to vague counter mystification . After all, are we not this very moment enjoying radical feminist-Marxist intellectual techniques to analyse and “shine the light of Athena’s wisdom” upon the cesspool of rapacious and extractive patriarchal-capitalism. I’m a “dyed in the wool” womanly exponent of clarity, albeit via feminine and flexible and often dancing and pragmatic and quasi paradoxical analytical adventures. Useful today, and maybe it so much tomorrow. The mode of womanly sensuous embracing being, the improvisation of many women in many simultaneous playful and revelatory conversations. Plus, I find sensuously and erotically thrilling, in a rather strangely transcendental manner, advanced theories of non classical and non/binary logical inference, and models of mathematics 🧮. I’m a UCL Philosophy girl! Trivalent and indeed much higher cardinality systems of so-called “valid logical inference’ are standard bread and butter in the philosophy and foundations of modern and more feminist and less neurotic blokey mathematics: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three-valued_logic?wprov=sfti1 You are quite right to see binary conceptual schemes as spreading “dead hand in hand” like a virus, with the grim spread of laughable hyper-patriarchal Abrahamic monotheism, and Imperial Patriarchal capitalism! What you rightly analyse, in Foucault style, as the all corrupting seepage of power, might be usefully understood as a direct incorporation into the psycho-social being of Vir sapiens ( thatvsyerilevand patasitical species colloquially called men) of gorilla power dynamics of elementary hierarchies if domination and subordination. When every social relation, and every schema of social Modelling is corrupted by the patriarchal thirst to prioritise these relations of dominance and subordination, and reduce all symbolism to tokens of domination, then the horror story of patriarchal/capitalist imperialism - both in the material geographical realm and in psychical realms - begins to be more blearily understood! Love 💕 Andrea

I'm going to go out on a limb and speculate that Maria Lugones doesn't have anything to say about the fact that currently, in the 21st century, it's Europe and the US--i.e., the most powerful imperialist states--that are far more accepting of non-heterosexualism(s) than other regions of the world: South America, Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, East Asia, and so on. This omission, of course, is not a coincidence, and makes explicit Lugones's ideological biases--in short, she's not a reliable scholar, but rather a propagator of ideology.

The hubris of going out on a limb, that is, failing to do the reading! "The coloniality of power introduces the basic and universal social classiication of the population of the planet in terms of the idea of ‘race’ (Quijano 2001-2002, 1). The invention of race is a pivotal turn as it replaces the relations of superiority and inferiority established through domination. It reconceives humanity and human relations ictionally, in biological terms. It is important that what Quijano provides is a historical theory of social classiication to replace what he terms the “eurocentric theories of social classes” (2000b, 367). This move makes conceptual room for the coloniality of power. It makes conceptual room for the centrality of the classiication of the world’s population in terms of races in the understanding of global capitalism. It also makes conceptual room for understanding historical disputes over control of labor, sex, collective authority, and intersubjectivity as developing in processes of long duration, rather than understanding each of the elements as predating the relations of power. The elements that constitute the global, eurocentered, capitalist model of power do not stand separately from each other and none is prior to the processes that constitute the patterns. Indeed, the mythical presentation of these elements as metaphysically prior is an important aspect of the cognitive model of eurocentered, global capitalism." p190

@@fredwelf8650 You didn't respond whatsoever to my one and only point: that the US and Europe are far more accepting of non-heterosexualism that the rest of the world at present. The video is about heterosexualism and colonialism, but fails to point out that alternatives to heterosexualism are LESS tolerated in non-imperialist states in the 21st century. Are you able or willing to address this issue? It seems you just chose some random quotes from another text regarding colonialism, but entirely avoided the issue of heterosexualism and its relation to colonialism/imperialism in the 21st century. Please stay on topic if you have anything pertinent to say on the issue.

@@emileconstance5851 I pointed out that you did not read the article. The excerpt I provided indicated that the issue of anti-non-heterosexual and colonialism go together globally. Wherever the West goes, it brings its compulsive heterosexuality whereas most cultures are more accepting of the non-binary and allocate specific roles to individuals are fall between the two main categories. Scant perusal of Morgan, Boas, Douglas, Levi-Strauss bears this out. Levi-Strauss complains on Tristes Tropique of the complex marriage rules - the investigation occurring in every application for a marriage certificate. No such scrutiny occurs in the 3rd World, and certainly not in the primitive societies of the Western Hemisphere or Eastern Asia. You ought read a bit before piping hot nonsense!

@@fredwelf8650 You're not a very careful reader, apparently. My entire point was that *currently*, non-heterosexualism is more accepted in imperialist nations, and I referred specifically to Europe and the US. You're referring to pre-21st-century imperialism, which I assume accounts for your misunderstanding/misinformation. A simple Google search and you can see the facts quite plainly: i.e., currently, non-heterosexualism is more accepted in European countries, Canada, and the US; and likewise in Australia and New Zealand, (likely due to their socio-cultural similarities to the UK). Beyond that you won't find many nations that are nearly as accepting of non-heterosexualism: maybe 2-3 countries in South America (Argentina, Uruguay), and one in Africa (i.e., South Africa), but otherwise no other countries in Africa, South America, the Middle East, South Asia, etc. Next time, check your facts before you spout such counterfactual nonsense. You do understand that there are significant differences between historical imperialism/colonialism and contemporary imperialism/colonialism, right? If not, then you really need to educate yourself before you comment on the matter further.

I find it almost always the case that leftist progressive activist types are ideologues and not genuine intellectuals. Their activism shuts their minds from having the ability to honestly consider facts that run against their ideological narrative. They seem to always be running on motivated reasoning. I find this disturbing.
