A giant fruit "pomelo" found in a Malaysian supermarket.
今回私たちは、マレーシアで初めてポメロに挑戦しました。

I like the red pamelo it had a bit sour taste then the white one is more sweet. Put it in refrigerator eat it while a hot time.. Its heaven.

Hahahaha, your first step was right by cutting off the top. But when you started making 6 slashes I knew your intention of dividing it into 6 portions. You should only make 4 slashes but not cutting right through, then you should insert your fingers into the openings and peel off the thick skin. Then you can easily divide the fruit into slices!

The best local pomelo is from Ipoh,called Tambun pomelo,few varieties ranging from sweet,mild sweetness and mild sourness.Price from around RM 15 onwards depending on sizes.

Malaysian pomelo is like the bigger version of grapefruit, but sweeter. Cut off the top & use your hands to peel off the outer spongy skin as well as the inner thinner white skin of each fruit compartment. You got it right by using it in salad. It is famously used in the "Yee San" dish during Chinese New Year in Kuala Lumpur.

@@koryue_channel I was born & raised in Johor state, knew nothing about "Yee Sang" until I joined the corporate world in Kuala Lumpur back in the 1980s. This "Yee Sang" salad dish is ordered at every business lunch in Chinese restaurants. The salad ingredients are mixed, then everybody at the lunch table tossed them as high as possible with chopsticks for business prosperity (or family prosperity) saying out loud all the Chinese prosperity words like "Huat" and "Heng" before eating them. It is an amazing sight and experience for a first-timer.

Check out at youtube "Yee Sang" Prosperity Toss Salad. This is a dish you & family will like. It is a festive dish served during the Chinese New Lunar Year, for which there is one coming up on Jan 22nd, 2023.

Your first step was right, cut the top off little bit, then use your hands to peel off the thick “skin” not cutting into few slices/pieces. You can ask local Chinese people how to do with Pamelo

The "red" fleshed pomelo is usually sweet and sour. The "yellow" fleshed pomelo is sweeter with a slight bitter after taste. The skin (properly washed) can be cooked as a vegetable but it is bitter.
