OMG, a hero who scaraficed themselves and didn't want to?! That's not something you see very often. It's usually treated as a noble act, but you don't get to hear them be scared and regret it. You rarely get them to say that they didn't want it but it was their only option. I'm so glad they went this route, yes what Mara did was noble and yes it helped save the world. But that doesn't mean she wanted to die.

Just thinking of Mara makes me tear up. She truly didn’t deserve that fate. She truly didn’t. She didn’t deserve to be forgotten and falsely recorded as a failure. She didn’t deserve the pain and death. She didn’t deserve any of it. But she chose it anyway because she was brave and kind enough to think of the world, her home, and her successor who she never even met. Ultimately her sacrifice was not in vain, but she still didn’t get to have pie with Razz…or meet HER Light Hope again. Mara’s story ring deeply because sometime…or often the real heroes never get to return home and see the fruit of their labor, and that is so sad. Gosh im bawling now

I think this is one of the common themes in the show, overcoming or making their own, one's programming/conditioning/ external expectations/destiny in order to be truly free, authentic, happy. There are aspects of this in multiple characters - Adora, Catra, Mara, Light hope, Bow, Hordak.

What makes this even more tragic to me are these two facts. 1) Light Hope was only following her programming and was esentially caught in the crossfire. 2) You can kind of understand why The Eternians/First One's would've wanted to use The Heart of Etheria. I read somewhere that they were going to use it against The Horde to defeat Horde Prime but using the weapon would kill Etheria. They were willing to sacrifice one planet to save the rest of the universe,a small price to pay in the grand scheme of the universe.

Since the shera cycle is very similar to the avatar cycle, heres something; Beast island. Crystal Castle. The Horde. Mistacor. Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when The Horde attacked. Only shera, princess of power, could stop them, but when the world needed her most, she vanished. A hundred years passed and my friend, Bow and I discovered the new Shera, an force captain named Adora, and although her fighting skills are great, she has a lot to learn before she's ready to save anyone. But I believe Adora can save the world.

Mara is a very unique character. Even in media explicitly made for adults you dont often see the dark side of martyrdom. To be a martyr is not just honorable, it's tragic, nobody should have to die for a better world, and we shouldnt romanticize the fact that they do.
@cupcakeprime5592 жыл бұрын
Honestly Her inclusion was one of better changes they made in the reboot compared to the original. Its always hinted that the swords chose Adam and adora, as one of their many wielders in the 1980s cartoon. but they never really explored that possibility beyond a few lines from the sorceress. It nice to put a name on to someone we've never seen but was probably always there.

OMG focusing this video on Mara is amazing 👏. I was so distracted watching Catra and Adora and the princesses, I never really considered Maras story. She's now one of my favorites. Mara and Adora have almost the same mindset of sacrificing themselves though. I don't know if it's because they're pressured and it's a SheRa thing or they really have big hearts and that mindset :)

It wasn't here but I love her line from season 3: "Maybe it's been a week... Maybe it's been thousands of years..." it really drives home how cut off she felt at the very end. She doesn't have any guarantee her sacrifice will mean anything except a few days' delay. But she did it anyways. That's heroism.
