Note: There are dangerous voltages in the primary of the power supply!. If you lack electronic skill please take to a professional.
I decided to make this video after seeing several of these processors had the same problem on forums. Hope this helps someone to fix their unit.
Note 2.There are other possible causes for no power than the fix I mentioned so the main thing to check here is for presence of a weak and unstable 5 volt line. The 5 volt line is on the positive side of the 3 3900 uf caps, Thanks for watching.

You are the Man! I had the exact same problem, no power at all. Took a little while to find this cap on the board. It's labeled C6519 I believe. Very tight area to desolder and re-solder. My soldering skills are the best but with the help of a magnifying glass I was able to change it out. I didn't have a 50V 22uF but I did have a 50V 47uF. The Marantz is alive again thanks to you! I'll post a small video that shows the power board out and the location of the cap. Of course I will mention your video. Thanks again!!

Measured 4.7 to 4.8 vdc at the output connector, (the smaller one with black and white wires) and replaced both of the smaller caps. One was 22uf and the other was 47, replaced both with 47uf 50volt electrolytic. She works like a champ and measuring 5.2 on the rail now. Plus is ok, but negative is not as far as processor voltage goes, at least in my experience.

Great job- Mine was slightly lower voltage and had a wider voltage swing.. Seems these units need rock stable 5 volts.

How much $$$ in capacitors/parts and about time in labor to fix this issue?

I don't do work through internet but if you find a local shop most charge 100-125 an hour and they should be able to do in an hour or less if its just the cap. The cap is about a buck or less but some shops charge 5 bucks per cap to help cover some of their shipping costs. As mentioned earlier if its the mainboard they sky is limit due to time and board costs.

Hi there, I have the same model Marantz processor with the same issue. I’m new to troubleshooting electronics with a meter. How do I test the 5v bus line? If there is any basic information you recommend I search to get more versed please send me that direction! Thank you in advanced and thank you for the video!

I would not work on this if you are new to electronics as there are dangerous voltages. Its been a year since i did this repair but if memory serves me i think the 5 volt line could be measured on the +side of the 3 large capacitors toward right of power supply if you are llooking at it from the side..

Thanks so much for the information. I have the same issue. I replaced the same capacitor and I could hear the power for a split second. Then I changed the rest of the capacitors with similar ones. Now no power seams to go through. Do you know the name or part number for the board? what should I be looking for if I need to replace the whole thing? Thanks again
@audiogear474
@audiogear474 2 жыл бұрын
Did you replace rest of caps with exact original ratings? Do you get any voltage on the 5 volt line(positive side of the 3 large caps toward right)? All I changed was the 1 cap. I don't have schematic to look up part number for board. There should be a number on power board. Encompass parts is a distributor for Marantz and might could look it up if you have trouble locating it.

I might also add that if you dont see 5 volts on the 3 caps. Unplug power to supply then unplug the connector going to mainboard and see if you have 5 volts when you reconnect the main power but with connector unplugged,. If you have 5 volts when its unplugged from mainboard then the problem is likely the microprocessor.

Most lcd problems are the screen itself is bad or you have low or unstable voltage going to it from main supply.

These meet the specs but its been over 2 years-I remember it being a 105 degree nichicon but cant remember the exact version. Its a good chance it was a upw or a uhe. I order those alot www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/nichicon/UPW1H220MDD/589634 or www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/nichicon/UHE1H220MDD/589344

Wow amazing you not only found, but alao fixed the fault. I have the same Model and it has developed a problem even Marantz and their official distributors admit they've never seen before. Every now and again, the unit goes into factory reset mode and all the settings are wiped. I then have to run calibration all over again. It may last 5 days, a week or two then all the settings are wiped again and you're greeted to the welcome screen aa though you're setting it up for the 1st time! Ive had two separate units do this and both of them are the 8802a models! Any clue as to what this might be?

I've never heard of that problem before.. I don't see many marantz in this town since no one around here sells them so not familiar with many of the common failures.. I'm surprised marantz couldn't fix it. Seems like it would have to be in the main board or wherever the syscon is. I would try United radio in New York if you don't want to send back to marantz.

Hi, I have a unit with the same issue and want to attempt to repair it myself. But when I look up capacitors, there are more specs than just the uF, etc. Is this a radial, and what is the size? Please give me all the info you can on this capacitor. Thanks in advance . . .
@audiogear474
@audiogear474 2 жыл бұрын
22uf 50 volt105 degree radial I used a nichicon if I remember correct-its been about 6 months. Nichicon series that will fit that description include vz,pw and uhd to name just a few. Digikey or mouser should have.

@@audiogear474 Thanks. I had just ordered one from an electrical supply place in my former city (Salt Lake City UT), and they told me that they always send the smallest capacitor possible given the tight quarters that most circuit boards are in. It looked like yours was radial, so that's what I ordered. Thanks for confirming.

@@audiogear474 Hi, I got the part and opened up the unit, but I'm having trouble finding anything numbered C519. Did you have to remove the board from the unit to get to that capacitor? As it is, I can see three very large capacitors and then two smaller capacitors nearby, one above the other. Can you tell me if it's one of those two smaller ones (they look like the right size and type) and if it's the top or the bottom one? I can send you a picture if that might help, so you can tell me which one it is. Thanks,

Hey, would you know if I can do the following? I own Marantz SR7008 which I bought in Europe. It has 220V power supply unit. When I moved to the US it was cumbersome to use it with the power adapter, so I bought another unit SR5013 (unfortunately it comes with 110V only) and kept the 7008 in a box. Now, I will be moving back to Europe and I was wondering if it's possible to switch the power units between those two models? The 5013 serves me well, it has all the features I need (air play, bluetooth and such). If this is not possible I will have to sell the US model before I leave - which I would prefer to avoid for the reasons mentioned. Thanks a lot for your opinion.

I 'haven't worked on those models but based on many other receivers I've worked on they rarely use the same power supply between different model numbers. and have different power requirements so generally not compatible as far as connecting between different units. The only way to know for sure would be find a service manual for the 2 units

If its just the cap its very inexpensive (if you do yourself) but it could also be a main board which is very expensive. I've never priced a main board but have been told 500+ for just part. It would just be a gamble.

Worked for two high end audio manufacturers for 20+ years. You'd be surprised how often the simple was the issue not a full board being burned down. saw pretty much everything on repair returns over the years. I did not do the repairs myself but since I handled the returns & had to insure/check any piece worked before it was returned I asked questions & had our repair guys show me what had happened.

Hi.I dont have a servoce manual to look up part number but any nichicon or united chemicon cap this value should work . A rubycon was in there originally but they are not as reliable imo. I order from mouser electronics and digikey. If you want to future proof go with a nichicon rated for 3000+ hours.
