I have the sr6014 and first do a manual set-up before using Audyssey . So I listened to very sound formats and was extremely impressed with the results with my ears. Then I ran Audyssey in 4 positions and left things as Audyssey calibrated my speakers and play around with different eq's and so on and could never settle on Audysseys software. Went back to my manual settings i saved on usb stick. Just loved the sound better. I even tried Audyssey a couple of more times but went back to my manual adjustments. I am saying this because I have owned many Rotel preamp processors with no calibration software in them . So trust your own ears and take my word for it you are not wasting your money if you don't use the Audyssey software in the receiver.

That’s why Marantz is moving forward with multiple calibration tools now, with Audyssey seemingly on its way out. There are AVRs that benefit immensely from calibration. Sony’s (my own) is one. I have tried both manual and automatic several times and just found it to be so much richer and fuller. Their calibration also has a good reputation (for a reason).

I bought this, and so far I’m not a huge fan. My old Yamaha receiver seems to parallel the sound quality in my opinion, and this Marantz AVR app literally never works! I ran the software and set up the mic for the built in EQ, and I wasn’t pleased with the sound. I ended up using the customizable EQ and the channel level adjustments and set it all up myself, and it seems better now. I got rid of an entire Sonos system because I hated that the app crashed all the time, and now this app is even worse.

Too bad Denon, Marantz, and Yamaha 2020 receivers and preamp/processors all have HDMI 2.1 board issues. They sourced their chipsets from one supplier with somewhat untested 2.1 chip reliability when it came to 8k signals.

It's not even just that. I have this Marantz and whenever I turn it on, or even switch inputs, I have to restart my raspberry pi (4k60) for it to pass the signal to my tv. Never had this problem with any other receiver.

Would this receiver be okay to run a pair of SVS ultra bookshelves, UItra Center channel, and two PB3000s? I'm eventually going to get some speakers for the surround L/R, and two elevation speakers, but that's what I have now, and need an AVR?

1080p to 4k was a good move, but 8k is really useless. Its good to use as a master and then crop to 4k for final product. No one will benefit from 8k for movie watching.

Can anyone recommend a AVR that has 4K 120hz, that is 7ch, but with a preamp can process 9ch for a 7.2.2 setup? I don't care for 8K at all so it doesn't have to have that?

I HIGHLY recommend moving to a 7.2.4 Atmos layout. Two overhead speakers are inadequate to have proper object movement in the height plane. You need at least four. That said, almost all new receivers have one or more "8k" HDMI inputs as a selling point even though it's really not needed at this time and they are all only partial 40 Gbps 2.1 ports, not full 48 Gbps compliant. Go with a Denon that can process 7.2.4.

@@dan_hitchman007 Totally agree, 8k is a selling point, its useless. I have a Nikon Z9 which can shoot in 8k and its only good if you want to crop your and then convert to 4k as an end product. Do you think the Denon sounds as good as the Marantz? Actually Dolby Atmos can do up to 128 discrete channels.

You can input 118 objects into the Atmos mix session, if your commercial mix utilized that many, but they are spatially compressed to work within about 16 cluster zones on export. You are describing the cinema version as placed on a theatrical DCP. There is no way you can have 60 because the consumer version only goes up to 24.1.10... 34.1 total with only a maximum of 10 overheads. The commercial version can decode 62.2. I think you may be fibbing.

I am making a joke because these people get crazy with all the speakers they think they need. 5.1 is more then enough for most people, and I agree adding two or four height speakers will definitely give you a more immersive experience. But when listening to movies there’s so much going on for example in an avengers movie that your mind can’t keep up with all the sounds and they all seem to merge together. One is best of buying two very good left and right speakers, and a great Center channel speaker as that is one of the most important speakers for a TV shows and movies. But all the discrete surrounds aren’t really that necessary. And yes a good 12” + subwoofer. If you have a room that is 40’ by 20’ with 12 foot ceilings, that’s a Different story…..

That's bloody confusing. Soooooo... If I try to run five 4ohm M&K S-5000thx speakers off this... it would be...bad? Or just not terribly loud? Or the speakers would clip at higher volumes perhaps? I have an art degree. I simply cannot be expected to understand this without adult supervision...
