Thanks for the info! We just returned from vacation in the keys. I would love to live around Marathon. My husband grew up around there. On Ramrod there is a gas station right next to Looe key reef resort. His grandpa used to own that before he passed and he even had his own Island. Unfortunately he had to sell to pay for Cancer treatments but our dream is to buy back that island and live there 💕. Maybe one day! It's a great atmosphere. Lots of cool people

One of the big pros in Marathon is its public general aviation airport, great place to live for some who owns their own small plane.

You've got Sombrero Country Club, for the golfers. I used to like to canoe on the narrow channels winding through Boot Key, revealing hidden bays with tiny islands inside. You might notice an imbalance of males and females in Marathon. I theorize that groups of guys might come here for fishing, while groups of girls are more likely to choose Key West, or even Key Largo. It's amazing all the business infrastructure in a town of only 10k people.

Thank you for sharing that amazing insight. Most men do gravitate here for the fishing and boating. But there are many women who enjoy the activities as well. Also, we love kayaking through boot key, where you must scuttle underneath the mangroves to reveal untouched beauty.

I used to come down there when my kids were young. We stayed in Marathon (usually at the Blackfin) and made day trips to Key West and points north. In fact, we were down there so much the guy who used to be the main guy at the Marathon 1, welcomed us once and commented that he did not see us in a while. I used to like that big Kmart with its fishing section, who picked up the bargain fishing shop and what will be going into the old Kmart?

The Gables on Go channel just picked up a stilted home there for $300k. They put $120 into it and now valued $750k. Like most deals, it was never MLS listed, it was private seller to real estate agent.

The main reason that there are only 10.000 people in Marathon is that most people who move to that area dont stay very long. I had a 20 plus year relationship with the keys, 10 of which were full time living on Duck Key. There are many other much better places to live in Florida. The keys are a very nice place to visit, and for those who can afford it, having a vacation home there would be nice, especially for the reef fishing.

Sombrero Beach and along the 7mile (BuLL SharK HAven) .. The 2022 vs prior to hurricane, Vs prior to 2010 was Local , Ask the old k mart ,.. Today, Its a sideways of sorts. The great places all closed. The new places are lacking the meaning of .. The Keys~

Boat rental slips are difficult. Advise, is to Google Marinas and provide the specifics of your vessel, (size, draft, ext) because all marinas have different rules. Good Luck!!!

This video is oriented toward the wealthy people. If you have enough money to buy a million dollar home and a fifty thousand dollar boat and have no need to work two jobs then you will live just like she says. If you’re not rich, it might be a little bit of a struggle. Marathon Airport is not private! Where did you get that misinformation? You should have told people that the City of Marathon extends from Hog Key to Grassy Key. Duck Key is not part of the city. The large island is Key Vaca, not “Marathon Key”. Mosquito Control is not a company, it is a government agency. You are paying taxes for that service. Shopping? What a laugh. Years ago there was the upscale boutique, KMart, but that’s gone. Private school? You’re talking to rich people, right? You should warn people not to accept real estate industry hype at face value but to be skeptical. I have seen so many people move to town and then move away in the first five years (if they can afford to move away).

Sometimes with traffic it could take 5-10 min extra. Luckily our experience has been right around 60 min. But if we spent an additional 10-20 min on the road, it would be ok.

We were just there. Took about an hour from Marathon to Key West to see the sunset. Key Largo also about an hour away.
