Subbed. 58 year old runner (2 years) from Canada. I have my first road marathon scheduled for December 1 and a 50km trail race scheduled for three weeks from now. Best of luck in your race John

It may sound like this is to far and fast for 2 weeks before the race, and it could be! My fitness level means I can run at 3hr marathon pace fairly comfortably and it's been other things like my ITB that have stopped me from finishing my races.. I am also learning and trying new approaches to tapering (always learning) This time I am planing on not doing much of a taper and basically building up to the race with training and having it as basically the final big training run of a marathon build. If all goes to plan I may even do a solo marathon not all that long after the race to capitalise on the built fitness and I run it at a faster pace from the start as i would be less concerned about "playing it safe" like I am in this race (I am over DNFs)
