Absolutely great idea! In fact, you'll be amazed at all the granite and marble scraps you can pick up for next to nothing at your local countertop supplier. My husband and I wound up with free sink cutouts that we trimmed and tiled for a 20 sq/ft woodstove hearthpad with $.99 sq/ft Slate tile for the wall protection. Gorgeous!!! (Plus 2 layers of cement board on both floor and wall to meet R-value requirements.. plus 1" air gap between the cementboard layers for the wall protection) It's a shame that so much in stone scraps going unused! It doesn't rot so you can collect until you have enough for a project!

Tip for the feet: you can use raw hot glue, pour a big blob, flip the board and set it on a few shims, like 1/4-1/2 inch 5-10mm and let the glue droop, it will make a nice flat foot on the bottom in a hourglass shape. If you let it cool a bit more and use a thinner shim, you'll get a rounder one.

It’s those “little things” in life, that your wife/partner/etc...remember “most”, & end up cherishing 😍. Thx for the vid, was fun to watch you make this board, turned out beautiful. If you were to add handles, what would you use to secure after drilling out the holes? Hope had an awesome Christmas Day, & best wishes for the New Year✌🏼

Around 12 minutes in after you smooth the edges you said you wouldn't use the same method to smooth granite. What method would you suggest for granite then? Thanks!

Marble or any stone is too hard for a cutting board. They will round over the knife edge = dull. Plastic or wood will make much better boards. Very much like this channel.
@tomruth94874 жыл бұрын
As a woodworker for 35 years, I can think of better things for a cutting board :P
@satibel4 жыл бұрын
If you use tempered steel knife (as most knives are), it's hardness is between a 5 and an 8 on the mohs scale, while marble is between a 3 and a 5, so in most cases it shouldn't dull a blade that much. It is basically limestone with less holes, so it's pretty soft.
@nickhickson87384 жыл бұрын
The everyday ones in the UK seem to be hardened glass or Wood and in special colours for different food preparations in catering places etc.

@@TrespassofRemus if you have insight, tell me, I like to learn. To me, softer materials not dulling the blade (as much) makes sense.

going to do some with granite what do you recommend for granite to polish it after. We have a bunch of small granite scraps and thought these would make awesome cheese boards for gifts for family this year.
@mikevita22283 жыл бұрын
Diamond polishing pads, they range from 50-3000, use your 50 first then double up so next is 100 then 200 then 400 then 800 ect, most stone 1500 is a nice finish

Hello! I love you, Marble Charcuterie board! I tried to chisel edges on a 12 x 12 marble tile (1/2 inch thick), and it broke in half! What went wrong? Thank you!
@onsightwoodworksАй бұрын
It’s possible very possible the surface under wasn’t even and you had too much pressure in an area that took the impact wrong and caused the break. Not 100% unless I seen how you had it placed; try another one! It’s worth the practice
@lousstylingplace4179Ай бұрын
@onsightwoodworks Thank you so much for your response! Yes, I recognized that I didn't place it properly to chisel. The good thing that came out of it was I made two small risers, or mini charcuterie boards! I painted the edge gold and glued round wood feet! Again, thank you for sharing your talent!

This is a really bad idea unless you want dull knives that you constantly have to resharpen after using once or twice don't follow this guy's advice.
@genewickersham45933 жыл бұрын
Get high quality knives, have them professionally sharpened-it's not expensive- and use a steel on them every time you use them. If this doesn't work then use a wood board for cutting and a stone board for serving. Marble is pretty soft, I don't think it should hurt a good knife.

That introduction.... Like this guy doesn't believe that men cook. I'm just here to point to Gordan Ramsay, Bobby Flay, Emeril Lagasse, Alton Brown, LifeofBoris.... Let's just not be shy about men cooking. Anyone can do it and should know how because everybody's gotta eat. I don't know if that was an on purpose thing, or just something you were taught that snuck its way in there, so I figure I'd just make you aware that it was there.
