I am well versed on the heartbreaking struggles and cruelty that my people have lived through at the hands of Isreal. No, if you want to ACTUALLY be factual and trace that route-- Jews are the natives of ALL of Palestine (which is a land region and NOT a nation. You could call Israeli Jews "palestinians" technically) dating back over 3000 years ago. What happened then is the Jewish people--being the single MOST oppressed and discriminated group of humans in history-- were attacked, enslaved, and many were displaced and scattered throughout the mid-east, Mediterranean, and Europe. In this time, Arab muslims begin launching more and more attacks on the remaining Jewish tribes (The old testament and the Quran both speak of how Mohammed even slaughtered a thousand Jews himself to conquer one of the tribes) and THEY begin establishing colonies all throughout the region and beyond. If ANYTHING the Arab Muslims are one of the GREATEST colonizers in History alongside England and a few others. Now, then we have WW1, the British Mandate and the return of many Jews to the homeland, because they were no longer safe in other places. This return is wrongly viewed by many as the Jews colonizing the Arab land-- FALSE. That is still their home and many Jews still existed there, but they had been pushed out and murdered by the actual colonizers-- the Arabs. Then we have the establishment of Israel, during which and throughout this time they are attacked by MULTIPLE Arab nations from MULTIPLE sides and yet prevail each and every time. Now, what generally happens when you lose a war? You often lose land. That is exactly what started happening with Israel, but people will paint it as their "expansion". NO! They got attacked, they defended and won and the losing aggressor lost parts of land. Now keep in mind the bits of land we are talking about are TINY!! The entire area of Israel is about the size of New Jersey in America. That is ALL the Jews had. While Arabs had over 50 nations at the time and still have about 25 or so in that region-- Israel was declaring their tiny sliver of land as their official state so that NO ONE could ever come and drive them out ever again. Fast forward to The gaza, West bank situation-- How many times has Israel offered peace and a 2 state solution? Countless times. I have more to say, but my fingers are cramping. There is a TON wrong with the way history is told about this conflict.

The only point I'll add to when Charlemagne asked "why is the US is so heavily committed to Israel" is because of the powerful Israel lobby (AIPAC), which has immense influence over major sectors of our society and to which EVERY politician goes to be blessed before running for office. That's why anytime politicians have to defend the atrocities of Israel, they - like robots reading off the same flash cards - repeat that "Israel has the right to defend itself".
