Oh man, when I was a teenager in the late 90s I used to think this exact guitar was the radest instrument ever after getting really into the Cubanos Postizos album. I tried to create a cheap version of it by buying an Epiphone 335 and fitting black dog ear P-90s to it, before P-90s were cool again haha. Decades later I saw Marc in London tearing it up on the exact same guitar with Spiritual Unity. I finally almost bought an identical ES-125 I stumbled upon in Ishibashi music in Shanghai but because it was from the 60s and originally a cheap instrument the neck was fairly shot. It's wild to sit here now and see an advert on KZbin for the exact instrument I used to covet as a kid!

How much did this sell for? Too bad it's already sold, I would have been seriously interested. I met Marc after a concert a couple of weeks ago.

Did he say he wouldn’t be parting with it.. but he wants to get a “fantastic SG”? Odd.. they’re such different guitars- maybe he has more great old archtops so, this one is expendable?
@darwinsaye2 жыл бұрын
He’s used a pretty wide array of guitars; Telecaster, Jaguar, Jazzmaster, Tiesco, Harmony, and (I think ) a Gretsch. I think he just likes whatever sounds good. Also, maybe he’s thinking of an SG Special, because it has P90s like the ES125.

He wasn't using it much lately. Last time I saw the Cubanos Postizos (2011), he was mostly playing his old Jaguar, the ES125 appeared on 2 songs maybe, and lately played almost exclusively the Jag on different projects. I've also seen him play an SG Melody Maker (those blue/green ones) so it is not far fetched.

@@darwinsaye Back in the day he played w a band - The Uptown Horns. They’d play Dan Lynch’s Bar down on 2nd ave. Some of those guys sat in w bands i was playing with.. Bill Dicey and Dr. Boogie. He mightve played a strat back then..

I like that he uses "pawn shop specials" instead of all the usual high priced,mainly vintage suspects..I'm sure he probably has a 53 tele or a 59 les Paul or vintage dangelico in his closet, but his choice of guitars for work/ travel is quite interesting..cheap vintage guitars from Japan,student model Gibsons,a somewhat collectable fender jazzmaster that looked like it was dropped down a flight of stairs a few times and a brand new gretsch chet Atkins type archtop ,all great instruments I'm sure but not too high on a collectors list..I'm guessing he looks at it like,as long as it sounds good and the neck is ok,he'll use it no matter what it is..

Most guys prefer roundwound strings. But there's something about flatwound that I like too. That dark sound with almost no sustain is attractive to me most jazz guys use them.. wes,kenny burrell, pat martino...pat metheny used them for years,Jim hall..they all got a little help with their great sound from their flatwound friends..I saw an interview with julian lage say he used flatwound strings on his telecaster!
