Bear in mind, these reference positions are for even scores like 7-away 7-away, like Marc uses in his 'Cube like a boss' book. Adjustments need to be made for match score, particularly for the double 5 blitz positions.
@Marcolino10DK3 жыл бұрын
That is true Buck. Reference positions are usually presented at a "neutral score" or "moneygame" situation.

Nice. I've not bothered to learn any reference positions yet, but I'll start with those...

The three variants for the second position were really helpful! Thanks.

Not sure what I was paying attention to...the reference positions or the Porsche. I think I need to start up a backgammon site 😉

Nice video. Double 5 also comes in another variant with 2 checkers on the bar(for instance from an opening 5-2). Where it can sometimes in a match be too good to double.
@BackgammonGalaxy3 жыл бұрын
That is right! It's a huge pass at a neutral score in the double 5 blitz, when a player has both back checkers on the bar, and for sure there are match scores where it is actually too good to double.

Great video and very helpful. Does 50/50 position mean double/take is ok or play on until you get the advantage?
@sjsphotog3 жыл бұрын
@Jim - It means its a toss-up for who can win. Usually you want to cube opp when you have 65-75% chance to win and your opp can take if the have 22-25% chance of wining depending on position and actual risk
@hugueshack74923 жыл бұрын
interesting.... but is it safe to make that kind of video when driving ?

Hi Backgammon Galaxy. I play on your website and I'm rated in the 1400 range, would Marc's book "Cube like a boss" be to advanced for me? I haven't read any other backgammon book but I've noticed my cubes are much worse than my checker play.

Get "basics To Badass" first Dave. Absorbing what this book has to offer will take you to expert level and beyond.

Great video - but I really think for your own safety you should have made the vid at the café, NOT while driving. You could also have used a real Galaxy board, rather than a virtual one. :-)

Who holds up their thumb for "three".
@cl98263 жыл бұрын
That comes from American sign language because you use your thumb to pinky to indicate 6. I know this because you can use the ASL numbers to hold a pip count on your fingers.
