There’s a copy of the first album in my university radio station. There’s a sticker on it that notes “The drummer from Nirvana. Sounds nothing like them. This band is gonna be huge!”

"If only he could have seen the joy that his music brought to the world, maybe he could have found his own. My life was forever changed by Kurt, something I never had the chance to say while he was still with us, and not thanking him for that is a regret I will have to live with until we are somehow reunited. Not a day goes by when I don't think of our time together, and when we meet in my dreams there's always a feeling of happiness and calm, almost as if he's just been hiding, waiting to return." Well actually, once after Dave had recorded a demo, Kurt called him up and asked what he was doing. He told him, and Kurt wanted him to come over and show him. After hearing the song, Kurt kissed Dave and happily proclaimed, I'm not the only songwriter in this band anymore!

This is true, but even then, Dave didn't get to see much of his work end up in any Nirvana releases. If I recall correctly, he was credited for the main riff in a song from "In Utero," and he wrote and sung lyrics for a B-side on that same album, but that was all the songwriting credit he ever got. The vast majority of Nirvana was Kurt Cobain.

Foo Fighter's debut and the Colour and the Shape are both great but they've really tumbled into that god-awful Imagine Dragons-esc radio friendly rock genre, I think Dave Grohl would've made far better music if he stuck to being a solo artist, but he's probably making bank so whatever.

Hiding his enormous ambition has always been a secret of his success, unlike Courtney, who was always open about what she wanted, much to the detriment of her reputation. There is no chance in hell Dave wasnt going to make Foo Fighters happen, its just Kurt made it happen sooner rather than later.
@SilentProti
@SilentProti Жыл бұрын
Dave had said before Kurt's death, that he didn't want to only be in Nirvana. During the end he'd said he probably play here and there. He doesn't really talk about it but when you look into it, Kurt's death influenced what he'd go on to do so much.

It's often mentioned how Taylor took a big leap of faith when presented with the opportunity to LEAVE Alanis - a top headlining act in 1995 - and join Foo Fighters. I agree. But that was not nearly as profound as Dave's decision to go forward with his own band after being offered a solid position with Tom Petty. Petty was king of rock for the most part for about 2 decades to that point. Dave took the offer for a sure thing and said thanks but I'm going to bet on me. He did not double down, he pushed all in. THAT is so punk rock

What makes me love self-titled more is that not only is it Dave’s farewell to Nirvana but also seemingly the end of an era for “grunge”. Though FF are their own band respectively I still consider self-titled the true successor to In Utero as Kurt’s influence can be heard throughout the whole album. The perfect bridge between In Utero and The Colour and the Shape.

Something that initially surprised me is that the 1st full lineup of the Foos is Dave and Pat ofc who were apart of Nirvana (Pat albeit a to-be member who was only touring guitarist) but ALSO, Drummer William Goldsmith and Bassist Nate Mendel who were both members of the 90's emo band: SUNNY DAY REAL ESTATE, WHICH IS MY 2ND FAVORITE BAND OF ALL TIME (Behind Nirvana) AND I KNEW OF SUNNY DAY REAL ESTATE BEFORE I LEARNED THAT THE 2 WERE (OR ARE STILL FOR NATE) APART OF FOO FIGHTERS WHICH BLEW MY MIND

I thought the impossible part was starting a band that matched Nirvana's level of success, which is also what he did. Dave has been in two bands that were THE biggest rock band at a certain time. I don't know if you can say that about anyone else. There are names like Ozzy, Slash, Chris Cornell, even Damon Albarn who have done pretty well, but not exactly there. So you might say Dave Grohl is probably the biggest rock star who ever lived.

Dave went from the guy from Nirvana with a band to the guy from Foo Fighters that was in Nirvana. That takes a lot of talent. I grew up with Foo Fighters as opposed to Nirvana so he was the Foo Fighters guy to me before the drummer from Nirvana.

Okay I jumped the gun I pause the video after part about Dave receiving the call about Kurt's death on March 3rd, typed out my comment, and went back and continued ur video. I felt so unbelievably stupid that I had to immediately stop the video again and top out my apology comment.. lol

Tbh, even if Kurt didn't die, Dave would've left Nirvana sooner rather than later.

I remember when I realized that Dave Grohl from the Foo Fighters was the same Dave Grohl from Nirvana. I had heard his name and stuff but just never put two and two together lol

I still think Foo fighters could have still done well even if Dave was never in nirvana.

I just read an article about the new Foo Fighters drummer " Foo Fighters revealed their new drummer, Josh Freese...The news comes ahead of the band’s massive tour which is set to kick off May 24 in New Hampshire and will be the first without Taylor Hawkins"
