I am coming over from Instagram and was glad you talked about the reaching the back of the layout.I have been trying to find your measurements . Was thinking 4' deep ! Just a little to deep for my layout but I really do like the rolling layout idea. Great points on your yard also. Just stopping by to say we are neighbors !! I live in Polk Co. Florida myself. Love your content!! We follow a lot of the same modelers !!

Just subscribed to your channel. I like what you've done so far and look forward to more updates. I'm in Jacksonville Florida and haven't had much time on my layout for various reasons, but really enjoy watching videos from all the other model railroads and learn from what I see. Thanks for sharing yours

Thanks! I agree, you sure can do a lot in a small space with N! I do love HO, but I'd need a lot bigger area to model the scenes I want to display.

Sorry you lost your garage! Yep, too much fun! I like the track plan. For that bare space, add more yard. What I found on my double ended yard and layout sidings is I need more parking. I like to see all my rolling stock displayed and not in boxes. I'm also kicking myself for not doing a double track Main Line for the whole layout, oh well! What else, oh yea, I could have started off with DCC but at the time felt it would cost too much. Again, had I known..... Now that I am working again full time it's time to spend. I recently placed order from Fifer Hobby for a complete Digitrax set up including 8 - AR1 Automatic Reverse Controllers. More climbing under the layout. At 68 glad I can still do it. 40 loco's to convert, thinking I will start with my 14 Kato F7's. Waiting on another 80 feet of Micro Engineering Code 55 flex track to finish a recent shelf extension. Just wanted to say good job on your video, enough so that I subscribed. I sure need help doing my videos.

Thanks Tom! I have a drawer full of DC locos to convert myself. You should have a lot of luck with the digitrax, it is quite popular. I started with NCE and then went to ESU. Sounds like you have an epic layout! Stay tuned to see what I do with that open space.

DJ of DJ Trains is fantastic. His interior knowledge is extremely valuable. I really like your layout and your freelance approach. I use Kato exclusively. I just moved and have a great room for my model railroad. I am starting off all over again. I will be looking to you guys for information and ideas.

Thanks for subscribing Michael! The DCC system I'm using is the ESU Wireless Cab Control 7 amp power supply. Switches are currently manual, but the Kate switches do have a motor in them and eventually I plan on being able to throw them remotely. Great questions!

@@Dr.K_N.Scaler I was big into N scale 30 years ago. Wound up selling $6,000 worth of cars and loco power. Health reasons. My father was an executive officer for the SP in San Francisco. His department called the "Communications Department" created a company called SPCC. Later you would know the company as Sprint. SPCC was created because Southern Pacific had the largest privately owned microwave system in the world at that time. Leaving high school my father got me hired as a brakeman in the SP Western Division. Stayed only 4 years and switched careers after college. Have a little bit of railroad knowledge.

Hey MJ! Thanks for subscribing! I don't have an official track plan and basically free-lanced it. Originally I had a really cool track plan from @dubaitrains, but ended up changing it a fair amount. I'll post a video that shows some more of the track layout that may be helpful.

Nice looking layout! Do you use JMRI Operations for ops or do you have a car card system?

I actually haven't used either, what do you use on the Otter Creek & Rio Grande? I'm open to recommendations!
@OtterCreek
@OtterCreek Жыл бұрын
@@Dr.K_N.Scaler I use JMRI operations. There is a learning curve but it's not to bad. I had a similar N-scale layout a few years ago and I added the JMRI ops (free software) after it was built. It was a game changer for me. It gave the layout a purpose that it didn't have before. I've kept JMRI ops in mind as I build/plan the OC&RG. I'm looking forward to see how your build progresses!

Nice initial look. Looking forward to next steps. What color would you say your ground/dirt is? Looks kinda redish on the video.
@Dr.K_N.Scaler
@Dr.K_N.Scaler Жыл бұрын
The ground is just painted with brown acrylic over the pink foam. It'll eventually all be scenic'd and landscaped so you won't see any of it. I agree, it does have a reddish tint to it at the moment.

Just subscribed to your channel. Wow! Love this layout. Would you share your track plan? Just curious. Yours looks like it is in a space similar to mine. Was also curious if you used the Kato double track where you have two track operation or if you used individual and measured, etc.? Thanks for sharing. My dad was an engineer for the Western Maryland (after several merges now CSX) and we did model railroading when I was growing up. I'm now retired and wanting to get back into it!

Looks like lots of fun. I would recommend against using #4 turnouts. Especially risky where you are running long autoracks.
@Dr.K_N.Scaler
@Dr.K_N.Scaler Жыл бұрын
Totally agree, the #4's will be used few and far between only on some sidings and other tracks not intended for long cars. The intermodal area has been removed, hopefully an update coming soon to show what is going in its place! -Billy
