Just found your channel. I had no idea a cottage garden was possible in Florida. I just bought a place in Stuart and I see mostly different types of palms and plants that have more autumn type colors. Your garden is beautiful.

Thanks! It’s a bit of a cottage garden with a tropical twist. I try to keep it as close as I can to a typical cottage garden which can be a little challenging during the summer.

Thank you so much for watching! It took me awhile to find the right plants that would grow well for us, but slowly it’s starting to look more like a cottage garden. 🥰 I think for us timing is key when growing from seed and planting those winter/spring annuals. Lots of luck to you!

What a lovely garden. First time visiting your channel. I garden in Zone 10a also, West Palm Beach, FL. I loved seeing all your roses and container planting. I am having to do quite a bit of container planting due to large roots from a very old Black Olive tree. Do you use drip irrigation? If not, how do you manage to water everything. You have certainly inspired me to try to grow plants that I did not think would do well here. Thank you and I look forward to watching your future videos.
@FloridaCottageGarden9 ай бұрын
Hello fellow Floridian! 🌴 Thanks for your sweet comment. I hope to have drip irrigation one day, but for now I hand water everything. It takes me a little over an hour sometimes longer. I usually do it early morning, as soon as the sun is rising about 2 times a week. Containers get watered about every 2 days depending how hot we are and if it has rained. It’s a lot of work but worth it. Happy gardening!

Gorgeous garden I’m in DeLeon Springs zone 9b ,where do you buy your roses from and which climbing rose would you say would be good for a rose grower beginner ? Thanks x
@FloridaCottageGarden9 ай бұрын
Thank you! I buy them at local nurseries, Nelson’s Florida roses, and different websites such as David Austin Roses, Heirloom, and Grace Rose Farm to name a few. Hmm…I know everyone here talks about Don Juan being one of the best and easiest climbing rose to grow here so maybe starting out with that one would be good.

How do u get your David Austin roses to do well with our heat and humidity?? I am close to giving up on them.
@FloridaCottageGarden9 ай бұрын
Well I’ve accepted the fact that they look great during late Fall, winter and spring. As summer starts getting closer I’ve also accepted the fact that they’re going to look horrible. I expect them to go semi dormant during the summer and just look at it as their time to rest. Just like roses go dormant during the winter up north mine go somewhat dormant during the summer so I just plant lots of zinnias and other heat loving plants around them so I can enjoy their blooms during our hottest months. Around mid August I cut them back about 1/3 to get them ready for their Fall flush.The beauty of living here is that we have a very long growing season.

Pity I can’t order them here in Australia. My country has a very stringent bio security policy and we can’t bring any plants or seeds into the country, a good thing overall but frustrating because the US has more varieties of plants and seeds to choose from and much cheaper. Bulbs are particularly expensive here. My state is even stricter again, I can’t bring plants, seeds or even fruit from another state in Australia across the border into mine.
