You've really nailed the cottage garden style. I see so many videos where it looks like they bought a bunch of potted perennials from the big box store, plopped them down in the ground and called that a cottage garden. Again, you've nailed the cottage style. Yours looks accidental. It looks magnificently mixed and blended without being too "matchy matchy." Love it! You have a good eye. It's truly a work of art.

I must confess, this is a result of letting nature reseed for me and being happy with the result. But I embrace it and enjoy the effect when you let flower grow where they choose too and they thrive.

Yes, some years I can't even walk in my garden in midday they are so thick and other years I wonder where they are at. When the ivy on the trees next door are blooming they are so thick in that tree that it seems like the entire tree is buzzing with honey bees.

Wow! What a beautiful garden! I just found you and I’m watching this in February. It’s food for my soul. I also love Heirloom roses and have ordered roses from them. They perform beautifully for me. Thank you for sharing your beautiful garden and for all your hard work. I’m getting inspired for spring!

Absolutely beautiful, look at all that color! This was very inspiring i hope my yard looks like this one day. I know it didn't happen over night. You've done an amazing job, cottage gardens are my favorite! I love the wash tubs and barrels with the roses in them. The trees and landscape around you is beautiful and peaceful!

Thank you! The trees all around are gorgeous but they also are what can make my space a challenge. But we all have garden challenges of some sort so making the best of them is key for any gardener! I have been moving to more containers as the gophers have been such a problem for me the past few years.

Have you tries castors oil and dish soap? You mix it with water. Just research it. I have used red peppers/seasoning and seeds from them to sprinkle in and around my pots to keep squirrels 🐿 out. I think some liked it though😂
@FlowerPatchFarmhouse
@FlowerPatchFarmhouse Жыл бұрын
Yes, but I have but I think I was not consistent enough and I was worried about it disrupting the soil microbes. I have not been able to find any information on that at all. A friend of mine has been using the castor oil solution much more consistently this year and he says it is working for him. So I may need to just bite the bullet and rebuild the soil microbes after I chase away the gophers.

@@FlowerPatchFarmhouse yes, you may have to. But I was just 🤔 thinking….With using black and red pepper it deters not only bad insects but I’m sure all and I definitely want bees and my butterflies so I’m not going to use them. I might isolate my oregano and use the pepper on it.

A breathtaking garden. I live in Miami, and miss the flowers, i use to grow. Do you know if your kind of flowers would survive in south Florida. I love you can't plant all year, but it is hard sacrificing cottage garden flowers.

Some may but I am not sure which ones. Many do enjoy the cold overwinter to perform best and since I live in the mountains I do aim for putting those type into my gardens. But there are tropicals that you can grow that I would love to have but there is no way I could grow them unless I put in a heated greenhouse. So I do know what you are talking about missing certain flowers and plants.

If you have flowers that really love it where you are then it should only take a couple years to get the fullness. The key is growing things that love it so much they come back, whether they are perennials or annuals that reseed themselves abundantly! I am always testing new ones I may wish to include but the tried and true always have a place in my garden like the Black Eyed Susans and Daisies, they plant themselves for me!

What type of daisy’s are they? What do feed your plants? - they r sooo tall ❤Beautiful garden
@FlowerPatchFarmhouse
@FlowerPatchFarmhouse Жыл бұрын
I have Shasta Daisies and the fluffy one is called Crazy Daisy. They grow so tall since they need to reach for the sun, we get a lot of shade before the sun is high in the sky. We are surrounded by tall evergreens that cast a lot of shade. I amend my soil with compost each year. I do you a liquid organic feed called Agrothrive in my pots and on my roses.
