I liked the Blue Wolves because it was pointing me towards a period of history I didn’t really know anything about and viewed it as a jumping off point to learn more. So I guess I read it with a different lens than I would a normal manga read. Your history lesson and subsequent discussion was great. I appreciate the work!

Ooo I also grabbed Heart of Thomas when I saw news of the reprint. Definitely going to try and read it soon. This was a nice large haul for sure! The added bonus of the Japanese history lesson actually tied a bit into Ooku for me too which was helpful, which I started a month or so ago. Happy reading!

The manga boom is definitely over and it’s very apparent when you go to any website like Facebook marketplace, everyone is selling everything or most of what they own (me being one of them). I think people are moving away from needing to buy all the new stuff and they’re selling all their stuff they don’t enjoy as much and keeping the stuff they really really like instead of keeping stuff that you just like a little.

Even as someone who loves sports manga, I have no interest in Initial D. It really feels like people are hyping it up just because it was out of print for ages. I mean, it’s great that it’s available again for people who want to collect it. That doesn’t make it a must-read series though. Also I completely agree with your thoughts on Welcome Back Alice volume 6. Some really great visual metaphors in that volume.

I never thought about it until you said it, but I totally agree! The hype is basically because it was OOP and now it's not. I'm sure something similar with happen with Red River and GTO (when it inevitably gets reprinted). Yes! Volume 6 was so damn good!

Some people actually REALLY do care about spoilers. You might have just ruined the experience for some people. It’s actually really important for the journey of reading and enjoying that story. The surprise factor u wish u experienced on your own. Even if it doesn’t matter to u it does to alot of other people and the part of making these kind of videos is having some consideration to your viewers.

Yes, we agree actually. In our format (free flowing conversations), it's easy to accidentally let a spoiler slip. We really do try our best to give people warnings, but sometimes it's easy to miss adding a warning during the editing process.

I think roughly 50 years before the Bakamatsu (aka the Meiji Restoration). There is actually a sequel to BotI called the Bakamatsu arc. I have no idea how it hasn't made it to America yet.

Yooo boondocks comics are great! Also Samuel L Jackson as Gin in anime is the greatest "SAY WHAT AGAIN" 😂 Oh man I got hunted down years ago saying yaoi for bl LOL IDK if you guys have ever been to put-in-bay (its a island in erie to the left of cleveland) But the history on the island is about Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry His memorial is there (taller than statue of liberty and you can go to the top and see Canada!) Its a great resort island to stay and vacation but the history is richhhhh (about japan and a lot about how her WRECKED England in Erie at Naval battles LOL.) he was a straight up baller. If I mentioned this before ignore it I cant remember but you 2 would 10000% Love a few day trip there! That aside my wife is helllla into this period of history in Japan also. She Blue wolves in the 6ish range also. Awwwwwwwwww I thought we talked a good bit but now I know its nothing in your eyes😢 I am getting off our ship and going back on land. I also have a wife and identify as male LOLOL Also I am still committed to meeting up and or visiting with us 4 and becoming IRL friends/acquaintances or whatever!

Great haul (…and interesting video title decision 😅)! Villains Are Destined to Die is a top-tier manhwa, nice to see MW enjoying it so much 😊 cool little history lesson in the middle too, as much as Rurouni Kenshin was a bit of a goofy manga with its over the top villains, no doubt it was also a great introduction to that period of Japanese history. At last MW is put out of her misery with the conclusion of Love and Heart 😆

Kenshin is definitely what got me interested in that time period! It's such an interesting event! Way more interesting than the Sengoku Jidai, imho. Sengoku Jidai was the time of warring states (i.e. Nobunaga, Toyotomi, Tokugawa).

27:45 I have Parallel Paradise too, Seven Seas change the paper stock in some series, the first 5 volumes have this whiter, heavier paper, then 6 & 7 has regular, then 9 switches back. I actually weighed the volumes, that whiter paper is nearly twice the weight. The manga Colorless has this paper for every volume so far.

@@meettheweebfamily Oh right, the only Dark Horse I have with whiter paper are the Berserk, Hellsing & Blade of the Immortal deluxe, all the regular omni’s l have like Gantz & Elfen Lied have regular paper, plus the regular volumes of Berserk, Tomahawk Angel & Mob Psyco 100 also have regular paper. That’s all the Dark Horse I have.

I have too many comments, woops I am so intrigued by Blue Wolves of Mibu but I hesitate because I'm big on character writing. I love the Meiji era and the history lesson was 👍 Daughter dunking on dad made me legitimately laugh out loud 😂 Also I have to say as tragic as Madoka is Princess Tutu still owns my heart for tragic anime girl 😭 And lastly mom being so addicted to Villians are Destined to die makes me consider reading it! Thank you Weeb family for that concise history of the Meiji time period. I would add, the Japanese seem to have a love affair with the samurai culture and historical losing side. Case in point is Saigo Takamori. He is considered the “last samurai” and is definitely not Tom Cruise. Saigo’s rebellion had a famous last stand on the island of Kyushu, which is basically the farthest geographic distance from Tokyo and the most rural of Japanese islands. Interestingly he was part of the ruling class but chose to fight for samurai core values and lost his life to modernization and a centralized government. Anyway, just more food for thought on the time period.

So, a few years ago someone from Japan educated me on the term "Yaoi", it's a slur for gay men in Japan, essentially. As is the term, "Bara". So, that's why the word is less commonly used now, and the prefered term is "BL" or "Boys Love"

@@meettheweebfamily so this guy was delivering udon, or tofu or whatever his dad made. To the top of the mountain. For fun he would drift down the mountain. People would see him and wanting to race him. Then legit pro racers would want to race him because of the infamous status he had. Then gangs and the mafia would organise on the mountain. Setting races and generally putting together illegal activities. Of course as a response the police got involved in order to shut down the gangs. Then stupid guys fool of themselves would copy those racers. Many "parents cars" would be flipped over by the side of the mountain. A guy even lost his life emulating said racers. 10 years later the original guy completely removed from the scene, not only drifting down that mountain was a thing, but audience would form anticipating races. heavy policing of mountain racing, not that mountain but now mountains in general. The original guy became an average pro racer. And shared his story with the mangaka.

I agree, lol, with Love & Heart and Tokyo Mew Mew those aren’t really spoilers. If you read shoujo manga you know the finale cover normally will have the ending couple together & if the girls wearing a wedding dress it’s a done deal! Lol - Tokyo Mew Mew is just one of those strange ones but I guess they try to not spoil it with the cover - the cover is spoiler enough 😂😂 Thinking on it so many Shounen animes in particular have openings that just spoil the story lmao (Naruto is a good example of this) I WAS upset some covers weren’t shown a little while ago lol - these ones are pretty raunchy l- true selling to the customers for sure! 😂

She has been making him healthy meals to take at work and she found a burger wrapping in his car. She felt betrayed since she had to make those healthy. She was shocked to realize he is eating both. I want to comment on the woman’s claim about the unrealistic body types, it’s strange that women always say that about the female characters but there’s never a peep from them about the male characters that have absolutely massive muscles. A lot of the female characters that they actually say this about have body types that are actually achievable, there’s plenty of women that look like that. Like the current drama with Stellar Blade, that the main character is actually modelled on a real woman.

As someone who is reading Initial D on the Kodansha app (and is halfway through the series) I can confidently say that this series is the prime example of out of print popularity, because man the story is not good, spoiler, halfway through the series the MC has only lost once and they for some reason don’t count it. He’s gone against essentially super cars and pro racers and still squeaks out because “he zones everything out” and it’s the dumbest thing ever, the series is pretty much for car heads cause they talk about car parts, the creator tries to do romance side arcs but most of them but one were bad. I expect this to be a series you see people stop collecting by like omnibus 4-5, all hype, no eurobeats so the anime has that going on but tbh a really bad series and Father Weeb did a good job not picking it up. P.S- The thumbnail for the tour video should be the guest with you two together with a sad sloth in the corner.

I really like the review of that volume and the history lesson ! Idk if Mummy weeb has heard of the shoujo series Kaze hikaru but that is a series of a girl (disguised as a boy) joining the shinsengumi. I quite enjoyed what ive read so far but sadly sadly shoujo beat is being super slow with the releases 🥲
