Janey I’m thinking because your property is so large, repetition is really important. Maybe repeat the azaleas in the long border for example. That is a beautiful mix of plants you have. To repeat that full mix all along the border with more azaleas would be fabulous!!
@helenjackson29716 ай бұрын
Definitely, I was going to mention this as well. Repetition is one of the basic principles of a beautiful garden especially one as large as yours.

Hi Jannie! LOVE your channel. Let me tell you that bugainvilleas are really not finicky. They thrive in heat, humidity, love FULL sun and are extremely drought tolerant. The more water they get, the more foliage they put out. The less water they get, they drop their leaves and bloom like crazy. I am from Puerto Rico and every house hold has them. My parents used to plant them along the fence as a security measure because of their long thorns. They grow very quickly and do not like pruning that much. They will love your front fence and spill over it their blooms. Hope this helps you grow them.

The trick with growing bougainvilleas here in Florida is to grow it where it can be left alone, needs lots of room, I once planted a peach color boogie over a pagoda and we ended up having to take it down because we couldn't control it from growing over the roof! Ended up having to pull it out with a truck! Broke my heart...I now grow a bougainvillea freely in a container overlooking the pond, no pruning needed
@rilyb40336 ай бұрын
I grew up in West africa, and we had a bougainvillea, and it makes me so nostalgic to see it every time. It was planted as a hedge at the front of our house and was a beautiful green wall with pink flowers. I was trimmed like once a year to keep it tidy. If I live in a warm climate again, one day I dream of growing it in my garden one day.

Janey, thank you so much! I'm in North Carolina and there's no way I can come to your event in May. But I looked to see the cost of the tickets, and it's awesome that you're making it a reasonable price for such an incredible event. Other KZbin garden channels do events and their ticket price is astronomical. Thank you so much for making your event accessible to the average home gardener. If you ever host an event in eastern North Carolina, I'll be there!

You should really consider going through Harris Seed Co through the Raker Roberta program. That's for plugs. Anyway, financially it is well worth it. I got trays of 36 plugs, but one tray had 67 tiny starts in them. They were actually decent sized. The azaleas and rhodies need acidic soil. In Washington they've been known to get 25' tall and wide. They're gorgeous. Your event sounds fabulous. I have FOMO! Come to Boise, ID !

Janey, this is a beautiful combination. I can not wait to see it grow together. I love those African Daisies! For your Azaleas, you're on the right path. Love your channel. 🤩I live in 8b coastal NC. I love, love, love azaleas. I have some of the old ones that bloom only once a year, and of course, I love them. In my new gardens I have switched over to the re-blooming Encore azaleas. (I know Proven Winners have some too.)The re-blooming ones are so, so, worth it! I literally have strong blooms on them for about 2 1/2 - 3 months, twice a years! That is over 1/3rd of the year! They are little trouble because they are shrubs, and the blooms are huge. Encore has a size chart because there is a big difference in foliage color, flower color, height, and bloom size. I have 3 different types, but according to customer service at Encore, Autumn Royal azalea is one of the toughest . It has proven that for me and they takes full sun, even the hot afternoon sun. Once again, I do enjoy your channel and look forward to watching you develop your garden at your new home.

Hi Janey, You are right about bougainvilleas being finicky in our zone 9b. They hate frost and need lots of water! African daisies are evergreen for me in Gilroy. They are SO easy, mine don't even get watered and they're beautiful! Your azalea can certainly get big, if it gets lots of water. I'd put double drippers there. They're very easy to grow. Just fertilize with acid-lovers fertilizer after they bloom and add some chelated iron if the leaves yellow. I SO wish I could attend the pop-up garden show, but Winters is a long drive for me. I have serious fomo!🤔

That area under the neighbor's tree looks good for your azalea. Even in southeastern NC, zone 8b, azaleas grow great in dappled light. I have a bank of old fashioned azaleas that are now in full sun. They are in full sun because a hurricane took out all our big old trees. They've been in their spot for nearly 30 years, and they are holding their own. But hey! We haven't gotten to the heat of a southern coastal summer yet. Good luck with those pretty plants!

Hi Janie! Here’s a tip on transporting plants safely in a truck without a cover from a life-long pickup driver. Place your plants as close to the cab as possible. The cab will block the damaging wind. For short people like me it’s a pain to reach over the sides with plants or climb in but well worth the effort! I’m so enjoying watching you transform your yard into your dream garden. Thanks for sharing!
