I'm finally doing something I should have done years ago: Ripping out some hostas that aren't working in an area and replacing with something else, as well as taking advantage of the fall planting season to fill in a few holes around the garden.

Thank you Erin for thinking of our friends and families that have been so devastated by Helene. We are in Central NC but have a house near Banner Elk. We are uncertain of the condition of the property but of course more concerned about the people. Thanks again for your kindness.

Thank you Erin for your support (and a nice distraction). I am in Johnson City, which fared relatively well, but all the towns around us are going through hell right now. The devastation is so much worse than the pictures can show. These people need all the help they can get.

Thank you for all those suffering from Helene. It's heart breaking. But I am sure the people will be happy to recieve a hot meal from your charity. The garden will be gorgeous as usual come Spring.

Erin, oh my friend you are wonderful for doing this. World Central Kitchen is my go to charity since Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. Blessings to you and your family. And by the way, congrats on the newest member of the family. I hope Dorothy continues to enjoy her sibling.

I was so happy to see WCK trucking in tankers of potable water into Asheville. My beloved Western NC. I am heartbroken.

Plant more of what works....that's my new mantra. Currently removing plants that deer/rabbits destroy and replacing with more of what I'm growing that are surviving/thriving in my garden. So, I totally understand the Geum choice. It's working, so let me plant more! LOL! I'm also feeling pressure to button up several projects before weather turns cold. I've hired someone to help me and I'm so excited that I might actually get several of these small things (new small shed install, new arbor, new small stone wall, moving large wood chip pile I got free from neighbor's tree removal, cleaning up the 1 million black walnuts that have fallen, etc.) crossed off my list so I can hibernate with my sugar-free cocoa and emerge next spring with a bright attitude and more motivation.

I haven't hit the end of season sales yet but I am focused on getting the hard to get stuff that sells out. Lots of mail order plants coming. Great video. I'm trying to encourage new gardeners in the family to plant things in the fall. You won't regret it.

Those anemones at my house decided to march forward and try and take over a vigorous daylily. Because they get so tall, I had planted them behind a clump of tall vigorous daylilies. Last year they marched forward and have spent this year, trying to beat out the daylilies for the area with full afternoon sun. Assume nothing!

❤️ I'm learning that deadheading and cutting back is the key for most plants. I kept astrantia in bloom the entire season after being told it would die back in summer. And for keeping plant tags out of the garden, I write on the tag where I've planted it then put the tag in a file. Today I'm moving a couple of hydrangeas to better locations, same with some dahlias. Then I'm harvesting some tall grasses that are breaking in the rain so I'll use them for a fall porch display. I redid my porch planters on the past long weekend (Truth and Reconciliation day in Canada).

I’m in coastal NC where we are used to hurricanes but what is going on in western NC is unimaginable to me! Thanks for using your platform to help those folks Erin! Question… I have grown Geum for the past couple seasons with no luck getting them to return in the spring. As I said, I’m in coastal NC zone 8 and I was wondering if you have any tips on how to be successful with them? There just so pretty and I’d really like to have them in my garden!

I am, also, looking to transplanting some plants to another area of my garden. My Mum came out great, large, and perfectly round full of purple flowers....the something ( playing squirrels) put a hole in the middle. I am waiting until late October to early November to start transplanting things around

I’m working on my front walkway…the JWs r driving me crazy!! I’m moving some small sedum to the front edge and it’s rolling up like carpet with barely any roots. So sad…☹️ i hope the it takes. Also dug out a rose 👏 finally, and I’m yanking out some Anemone…I had no idea some were well behaved I read that you can try to confine the aggressive ones like mine with edging. Thanks for sharing and for your donation.
