That's one of the most impressive things about this anime... It so naturally shows the growth of its cast and tackles such heavy topics so well. I have an insane amount of respect for the author. I've only seen such masterful storytelling a handful of times in my life.

The contrast from this opening compared to the first is beautiful and truly portrays how much Rei has grown already and is starting to see the world in colour instead of dark depressing hues. Also how he keeps climbing/jumping over fences and so on, showing he's learned to climb over/win against his depression. I'll forever be disappointed if this show doesn't get another season, SHAFT is the only studio that could do the source material justice and adds a whole new level to the story.

No anime has ever made me cry as much as Sangatsu no Lion. Chika Umino and Shaft really encaptured the feeling of depression perfectly. I'm actually becoming envious of Rei since I feel like I also want to make progress. We started at the same point at season 1 episode 1 and I saw him grow and battle his depression and I want to get better too, but it's hard. So yeah, well done Shaft, you held a mirror to my face and gave me katharsis.

This series certainly has been very moving, but it's not the only one I've seen. But, if it gives you strength, hold onto that. Have you seen Violet Evergarden? I feel like I was crying just about every episode of that series, and the movies were very emotional, as well. The strangereal historical feel sort of distances it from being as identifiable, I suppose, but it's still really moving, as well.

Ugh this opening still gives me chills--its animation and art direction and great symbolism are executed so well. SHAFT has so many talented animators and storytellers in their studio. I hope this anime gets another season. The manga is excellent, but it is so great to see these characters animated and have SHAFT add an extra layer of meaning whenever they portray their struggles with those amazing symbolic scenes, especially the burnt field scene in episode 39.

Rewatched the whole series, and I especially put off on watching this video until I got to the second season, because I remember this op being my favorite out of them all. Turns out I was right, rediscovering this absolute gem of a song was priceless 🥲

This is probably my favorite anime of all time and my god this opening. As someone who struggles with anxiety and depression on a constant basis, it truly resonated with me. What is one of the most beautifully tragic bits of symbolism here is Rei chasing the butterfly which, to me, represents happiness and belonging but it constantly eludes him. He tries to chase it, but even when he thinks it's in his grasp it slips away from him. The heartbreaking expression as he tightly grasps it only for it to slip away reminds me so much of my own struggle. In spite of how much heartache and pain, we keep chasing happiness and a feeling to belong.

Season two was beyond amazing, it gentlely touched my heart and I found myself loving this series more and more, charcters were all so amazing, it was because of them I love it so much. i personally love it, if i would to compare this series to another anime, Your Lie in April would be the closest to this show, both the MC loves doing a certain thing, March comes in like a lion(Shogi), Your lie in April(Piano), yet it sometimes brings nothing but pain to them, and there are side characters who help MC grow as a character. so if you ask me yah its good. So if you like Your Lie in April you may like this too.

Personal opinion but this is my favorite op for this anime and one of the best op's among all the animes I've watched. The symbolism, song, animation, color, they just all made a beautiful combination showing growth in Rei's character on so many levels. I was so sad that it switched out for the fourth op (as good as the 4th op was). This was honestly one of the best animes I've ever seen and really hope for a Season 3 in the future
